7 Healthy Habits To Adopt This New Year

A lot of people say they wish they could change certain behaviors or pick up on better habits, but it's harder than it seems. Getting started is usually the hardest part so you just have to do it! You can start by changing little things in your everyday life and having a healthier mindset.

Here are some habits to help you on your way of becoming a healthier, happier you!

Have a bedtime routineĀ

Getting into the habit of making a nightly routine can be very beneficial in the long run. Having a set schedule of when you would like to be in bed by, can set the tone for the things you do during the day leading up to that point. Make a list of all the things you need to do before you get into bed (brush your teeth, wash your face, etc,) and make this your "wind down" time.

Get a lot of sleepĀ

Not only is a nightly routine a good habit to form, making sure you get enough sleep is even more important. Everyone knows how important getting a good nights rest is but this is something a lot of us struggle with. If you make sleep a top priority, it can lead to a healthier day-to-day lifestyle.

Set daily move goals

I love having my Apple Watch for this reason! I have daily move goals and reminders set to encourage me throughout the day. It's really important to try to stay active and do as much in your daily schedule as you can, but remember, it's OK to start small and work your way up.

Make time for self-care

Making a self-care plan is something everyone needs for their well-being. It can be something small like lighting your favorite candle, taking a bubble bath or going for a walk, or it can be reading a new book or taking classes to learn something. This is a time you set apart for yourself, even if it is only 20 minutes a day.

Check out more way to practice self-care here.

Be forgivingĀ

I've always been told that holding grudges hurts you more than the other person, so this year try to let go of negative things you've been harboring. It's OK to not completely forget about the pain someone has caused you but do yourself a favor and learn to overcome the negative thoughts to find more positive ones.

Set realistic expectations

This can count towards many aspects of your life; dating, diets, life goals, etc. If you have an unrealistic expectation in your head of how you want things to play out, you will always be disappointed with the outcome. It is so important to stay level headed and have reasonable expectations in order to accomplish your goals and have good relationships with others.

Stay hydrated

I'm sure you have all heard this one before but it's important to drink plenty of water every day! Water has so many health benefits and this is probably the easiest thing to accomplish on this list, so why not do it? Staying hydrated can lead to clear skin, prevents kidney damage, weight loss, increased energy and so much more.

P.S. ā€” Stay away from soda!!!

Why wait until the new year to implement these positive habits into your life? Get started today and once you try one of these I guarantee you will feel a difference in your everyday life!

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
