I Have So Much To Be Thankful For
Andrea Schreckengast

With Thanksgiving around the corner, I cannot help but think of the things I am thankful for. There are a lot of things I am thankful for, and I know I may not be able to cover everything I am thankful for, but I am going to write about some of the key things I am thankful for.

I am thankful to have God in my life. This is the most important one, I believe, because without him I would not be here.I am thankful that he is all that he is and he is patient with me, even when I do not give him the thanks and praise he deserves. No matter what, he is always there.
I am thankful for my husband, Johnny.I am so thankful we met and now have been married for a little over five years and now have a family together.Babe, you make me so happy.I am so happy to see the way you are a great father to Johnathon. It makes me so happy to see the way he looks at you with joy in his eyes.I am so glad I have you in my life. You are the love of my life always and forever. You were the first person who let me be able to forget what happened in the past and just live in the moment. You have held my hand through thick and thin and I cannot wait to spend the rest of our lives together.I love the way you can make me laugh at the simplest things and how caring and sweet you can be.You are so supportive of my writing and that makes me feel so amazing. There is so much more I could say, but most of all I am proud of the man you are.You are a great husband and father.Thank you.
I am thankful for my son, Johnathon.I cannot believe he just turned 1 year a month ago, and he is on his way to walking.Baby boy, mommy loves you with all her heart.I love to watch you laugh and play.Seeing you become so fascinated by the simplest things is amazing.I love watching you learn everything you do.I cannot wait to see the man you grow up to be.I know it will be sooner than mommy or daddy thinks, but I am enjoying you while you are little.Enjoy being young, sweet baby boy.
I am thankful for my mom and dad.Thank you for all you two have done for me.I would not have become the woman I am today without ya'll.Daddy, I know we are birthday buddies and we have had our disagreements in the past, but thank you for being there, even when I was too stubborn to see it. Mama, I love you bunches.Thank you for always being there too.You have always been able to find a way to make me laugh growing up, and I know if I call you will answer.I am glad we are as close as we are.
I am thankful for my brother and sister.Thank you, both for always being there as well.I am glad we talk and are closer than when we were growing up.I may not call often, but I am glad that I have ya'll in my life.I will always be there for both of you no matter what.Brandon, I wish you lived closer, but always know I think of you often.Nikki, I know you live in the same town, and our schedules are so busy we do not see each other much, but I will always be a call away.
I am thankful for my in-laws.I do not view you as in-laws, but more like mom, dad and sisters. From the moment I got into a relationship with Johnny, all of you have welcomed me with open arms into your family. I enjoy spending time with each of you and all of you are amazing.Thank you for always being there for me.
I am thankful for my friends. There are too many to list here, but I thank all of you for being my friend.I may not have been the easiest person to get along with and we may fight time to time but know I do value our friendship.
Now onto the specific things, I am thankful for that are not family or friends.I am thankful for the way I grew up.It may not have been all happy and pleasant, but it is what made me into the woman I am today. Without those certain circumstances, I would have been a different person. Those experiences made me stronger. Not saying all of the ways I grew up was bad or challenging, but I am thankful for the good parts too.Every piece molded me into who I am today.
I am thankful for my time in the Navy.Although I found that making a career out of it was not for me, I did learn a lot about honor, courage, and respect.I learned more than just those specific things, but those things have been drilled into my head since boot camp.I am thankful for all of the shipmates I have had and I am glad I am still in contact with them.
There are a lot more things I am thankful for because I am thankful for everything in my life. Like I said earlier, if I did not go through what I went through, then I wouldn't be who I am today.Ok, maybe there is one thing I am not grateful for, my migraines. If those could go away I would not mind at all.
I do want to say one more thing I am thankful for.I am thankful for each of my readers and my editor.I love writing and it is amazing to have this great opportunity of sharing my work with ya'll.Thank you all.

Parks and Recreation excitedly gathered around a laptop at a table in an office setting.

The library. Club lib. The place every college student goes when they want to try and be a productive member of society. Who better to explain your experience than Parks and Rec?

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
