Yet another Valentine’s Day has passed, and you’re still single. You've most likely walked around campus this past week seeing familiar faces walk by, hand in hand and looking happier than ever.

I would be lying if I said I wasn't salty about being single in college, especially when it seems like just about everyone is getting into a relationship. In reality, you can be just as happy, if not happier, alone.

Being single in college shouldn’t be perceived as something negative. Here are reasons why I’m more than OK with being single in college and why you should be too.

1. You have all the time in the world to focus on yourself.

As cliche as it sounds, you will find yourself in college, and it’s hard to do that if you jump straight into a relationship.

2. You have the opportunity to meet different types of people.

Because you aren’t tied down, you won't be limited to the people you have the opportunity to meet.

3. Every night can be a girl’s night.

You can go out with your friends and have as much fun as you want without having someone constantly check in on you. Or, you can stay in and watch romcoms, order Dominos, and pass out at 12 a.m.

4. You have more time to focus on school.

We’re not all in college to get the MRS. degree.

5. You avoid getting your heart broken and all the pain that comes with it.

Not all college relationships end in marriage. You’ll be better off not having to deal with a broken heart.

6. You can have your bed all to yourself.

Sleep is rare but essential in college. Take advantage of it.

7. You can have other guy friends without a problem.

No need to worry that someone will get jealous if you have a close friendship with another guy.

8. You don't have to spend money on anniversary gifts.

Because we don’t all have money to spend for an anniversary gift every month.

9. You don’t have to shave your legs for a week, and no one will know.

This one explains itself.

10. You won’t have to settle.

You know that you’re fine on your own, and you’ll never find the need to settle for anyone. You would rather be single and happy than be in an unhappy relationship. You’ll meet the right person when the opportunity comes.

11. You never have to wonder if you’re wasting your time.

If you put all your energy into a relationship and don’t focus on yourself, you may wonder if you’re wasting your time with this person. If you’re single, you’ll never have to worry about this!

12. You'll have more alone time.

Alone time is essential in college, and if you’re in a relationship it may be difficult to get this time to yourself. Lie in your bed and watch Netflix for hours, and no one would know.

13. You will learn to love yourself.

Being single during this time in your life will allow you to truly understand what it means to love yourself. You have to love yourself before you can give love anyone else. Be confident in who you are, and someone will eventually see that.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
