By now a lot of people have heard about Hamilton: An American Musical, but people still don’t quite get what it is exactly. Hamilton is a musical that uses rap to portray the story of the founding fathers, focusing on the life of Alexander Hamilton. Now, this may sound kind of strange, but this is one of the best shows that I have ever seen. Everything from the music to the choreography and even the staging comes together in a beautiful mix to create a show that is physically and emotionally astounding.

Personally, I used to do theatre so there are so many things that I can say about how well this show was done. If you ever get the chance to see this show you will appreciate it, even from a non-theatre background. First off, the music from this show is amazing. Not only does it take on a whole new way of creating a musical by bringing rap into it, but it also exquisitely tells the story of Hamilton solely through music.

In addition to this, it intricately intertwines the musical theatre style songs with modern music by adding in techno elements. Secondly, the staging of this show is phenomenally done. The stage itself is minimal in regards to what is actually on it, but it has center circular panels that move throughout the show that add a whole new aspect to what a stage can do. The amount of things that they can pull off with a more simple stage setting is astounding. The lighting also plays into this and adds to the staging of the show.

Another wonderful aspect of this show is the choreography, everything is so on point and well choreographed it is just beautiful to watch. From the way certain scenes are staged to having an excellently choreographed and engaging fight scene, it truly is a sight to see.

There are so many things that I could say about this show and how truly wonderful it is. There is something to be said about a show that can expertly take a music, some dialogue, dances, costumes, and props and turn it into an immersive experience for the audience.

I was already in love with this show before I went and saw it, but seeing it brought it to a whole other level. Hamilton truly blew me away with how much of an impact it had seeing it in person. I could not highly recommend this show. It may be a little hard to get tickets, but it is one of the best choices you will make when it comes to going to see a musical.

As soon as the show was over, I wanted to push rewind and watch it all over again. From the funny moments to the heart breaking ones, Hamilton is truly a wonderful work of art.

So always be ready to rise up and not throw away your shot!
