Nothing beats the fun of Halloween. The candy, costumes, and culture around Halloween are simply magical, and it is unfortunate that Halloween day has come and gone so quickly. I would be thrilled if the government decided to make a month-long holiday.
But because Halloween cannot last forever, here is a list of five films that will keep your Halloween spirit alive.
1. Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007)
If you haven't heard of Sweeney Todd, it is creepy musical about a man's barber shop and the frightening truths behind it. The themes of murder and love in conjunction with the freakishly good music of Sweeney Todd make it a perfect film for to extend your Halloween mood.
Oh, and I cannot forget to mention that the powerhouses Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter star in Tim Burton's film version of Sweeney Todd, so with those three alone, how can it not be perfectly spooky?
2. The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975)
This bizarre musical comedy is another classic that has a Halloween feel to it.
A sweet and innocent engaged couple finds themselves fall into the irresistible time flip. This film's aesthetics fall in line with that of the Halloween, and mystery and music of this film add to that.
3. Beetlejuice (1988)
How can I list Halloween movies without listing a ghost movie?
Beetlejuice is all about ghosts, a house full of them... and their unwelcome guests. It is a fun and spooky comedy featuring Winona Ryder, who I'm obsessed with in her role as the misunderstood Lydia.
4. Halloweentown (1998)
I feel like I would be cheating my generation if I didn't include one of Disney's Halloween movies.
Halloweentown is a classic when it comes to Disney Channel Original Movies, and it told us young, bright-eyed Disney fans that "Halloween is cool." It is a perfect taste of childhood nostalgia to supplement the Halloween nostalgia.
5. The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)
I'm currently realizing my accidental theme that nothing screams Halloween like Tim Burton. It's true though, so I am happy with it.
The Nightmare Before Christmas is the first animated film on this list. It shows the how the worlds of Halloween and Christmas can combine in a cute and spooky way that will help you hand over your spooky spirit for a merry one.
