Which is better?

Halloween: Childhood vs Adulthood

Halloween is known as one of the scariest, goofiest and most involved holidays that people of all ages look forward to. Between the candy and the abundance of costume, Halloween hasn’t changed too much.

We can all admit, though, that through the years the way each individual "treats" Halloween has changed significantly.

Here is the head-to-head face off and competition to see if Halloween is better when you're a kid or when you're an adult.

1. Trick-or-Treating

The best memory is trekking along the local streets with an empty sack, on the hunt for some regular-sized candy bars. Trick-or-treating was one of the best times and the number one thing all kids looked forward to on Halloween, so you can imagine how disappointing it was when you had to grow up and stop going. It was a sad experience whenever my excitement turned into pure jealousy whenever I had to start handing out candy to the neighbor's kids. Of course there was always that one "kid" who looked a little to old to actually trick-or-treat If you're a kid going trick-or-treating, it's cute; if you're an older person, it's weird.

2. Costumes

Being a kid, you always looked forward to costume shopping with your parents and finding the best costume that would impress all of your friends. You could somehow live out all of your fantasies through that costume, now you're an adult and the fantasy is still there, but there is some judgement on the line. If you're a women, your selection is 10 times more sparse, considering the fact half of the options includes the word "sexy." Given this reason you automatically can live out your dream because society has some kind of expectation for you to be a "sexy cat."

3. Movies

I greatly appreciate that we all had the greatest Halloween movies ever as children. Between Halloweentown, Between Twitches, Hocus Pocus and Corpse Bride, Halloween themed movie nights were jam-packed. Although these movies are now deemed as classic movies, I find that as an older person now, the amount of variety in terms of Halloween movies is much larger. I can continue to watch movies like Halloweentown, but then watch the Conjuring. When we were kids, we couldn't watch those kinds of movies (at least I couldn't), so now having that option is awesome.

4. Candy

Getting candy as a kid was a lot more fun than when you get candy as an adult. Candy now is so expensive and when you're a kid people just hand it out willy-nilly. Although adults now have the privilege of actually getting full-size candy, it's not cheap. In contrast, when you're a kid, you had all of the rules that went along with trick-or-treating (don't eat open candy, etc), and now that you're an adult and now that you have more common sense, you don't have to pay attention a lot to those rules. AND you don't have to worry about your parent's eating your candy. So all-in-all, a point should go to both kids and adults.

5. Haunted Houses

Haunted houses as a kid were either too scary or too lame, so I believe haunted houses now are ten times better. It's way more enjoyable when you get scared in front of your friends and laughing about it than actually being scared.

Adults: 3

FINAL SCORE: 3-3 TIE!!!

The final is a tie. Ultimately, Halloween is just awesome now matter how old you are. You can dress up however you want (within reason) and you can eat an exorbitant amount of candy without feeling super guilty. This holiday is almost so amazing that it's scary.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
