A Guide to Thrifting in Summerville, SC
Thrift Shop

Hi, Summerville! I have included my recommendations of antique, consignment, and thrift stores around town. I have one message I would love for you all to take away from this article: HELP SMALL BUSINESSES! Please give this post a read/share, for adding to these businesses' clientele is a way to ensure the integrity of small business productivity in our area.

1. Simply Vintage

Simply Vintage is conveniently located just outside the major shopping areas of Summerville. I am not a stranger to antique stores. But, the thing I find to be unique about Simply Vintage includes the versatility of their collections. From windows that need some love and refurbishment (see picture below) to dainty antiques, like dishes and vases, this store has it all.

2. Main Street Antiques & Consignments

Don't let the small storefront fool you, for Main Street Antiques and Consignments is a rather large store that features booths from various sellers in the local area. The store is clean, and the staff is friendly. I love how the booths in this particular shop are separated, for all the antiques/collectibles are easily visible to customers, and the personal style of vendors, who are attempting to sell items in the shop, is clearly represented.

3. Second Chance Thrift Shop

Well, it is safe to say that Second Chance Thrift Shop is a hidden gem. The shop used to be located in the heart of Summerville, however, this quaint business has recently relocated to a shopping center off Bacons Bridge Road. The store does not have a traditional awning or storefront, so it is easy to miss. If you have passed by this one without giving it a second glance, I guarantee you have bypassed treasures. As a young person, I enjoy the wide selection of clothes Second Chance has to offer. Additionally, as a book lover, I too love the literature the store has to offer. The prices at Second Chance are reasonable, and the staff members are the sweetest.

4. Ash & T's Consignment and Moving Company

Ash & T's Consignment and Moving Company is well-known in the Summerville area for their wide array of furniture and accessory antiques; however, they are also known for consignment prom and formal dresses (it's that time of year for many high school students, so be sure to check it out).

5. Antique Artisans and Village

Antique Artisans and Village has two Summerville locations. The business is well-known and reputable and the staff in both stores are quite friendly. Similarly to other stores on this list, Antique Artisans and Village feature booths of various sellers of antiques thus there are plenty of options in terms of style and age of items.

6. Community Thrift Store

I know what you must be thinking: "The Community Thrift Store hardly matches the integrity of the other businesses listed here." WRONG. The key word here, folks, is "community." The Community Thrift Store at Oakbrook receives donations from the entirety of the Summerville area. This means great finds at great prices!

7. Vintage South L.L.C.

Vintage South is the place to be if you are interested in getting in touch with your inner Joanna Gaines. The store is home to an abundance of used goods: windows, letters from the signs of businesses, antique hardware, used doors, etc. Check it out!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
