Growing up I was blessed to have heard of my dad's dad, which I never got to meet since he died the year I was born. I, of course, heard of him and how he lived his life. He would then separate from my fearless Amma, and she would go onto new heights with someone else. That someone else, the grandpa the I got to know in which my grandma found her soulmate. Bumpa as my cousins would call him.
I always will remember playing UNO and always trying to beat him at it (I never did but he always tried to let me win when we took score). I have many childhood mementos going to Disney World and spending time with both of my grandparents at their vacation home. I was able to meet Mickey and still spend quality time with them.
I would not change that for the world, and it's something I will always take with me to tell my own kids someday. Life is certainly short and sometimes I wish that it wasn't. But I know that someday I will be back with my grandpa in heaven. I know that he's laughing at all the crazy that is going on at the moment and he's for sure watching down on us. 143!
