As you may have read in a previous article, I had plans to travel to Europe this winter break. Well today was my first day here and while it was awesome, there was a slightly terrifying moment.
Do you know those waterslides where you enter the tube, cross your arms, and then the slide operator releases the ground you're standing on to send you free falling down the slide? Today I went on one of those for the first time at waterpark called, "Miramar." The descent down was absolutely thrilling, but then about halfway through the ride I lost my momentum and completely stopped moving. I didn't know what to do! I was disoriented because there was water flowing at me from both sides of the slide so I didn't know which way to try and move.
I looked up and realized that there was an escape hatch so I tried to open it, but it was locked. I then resorted to screaming for help for about five minutes. I didn't know what to do! I was trapped inside of a water slide and because of the water pressure, I couldn't try and slide myself one way or the other because it would just end up pushing me back! After screaming for help someone outside of the slide came to rescue me, an employee. He opened up the escape hatch and let me out and asked me if I was okay. I told him thank you many times, but I was still a bit terrified. Not only was I just stuck in a waterslide, when I was rescued I was welcomed to the freezing air of Germany while I was soaking wet and in a bikini. (The waterpark is mainly enclosed indoors.) I had to hightail my butt back inside of the park because I was scared of hypothermia!!!
Even after all of this though, it's a story that will be hilarious to tell, and another adventure added to the list.
Don't be afraid to make a fool of yourself, it only makes funny stories.
