The truth of God's words should always have more weight than the feelings of other people's words. But let's be honest, do they? Do we allow God's words to penetrate and refocus our emotions, feelings, and thoughts about a situation or person? It is easy to listen to the opinions of other people. It is easy to let them shape your circumstances. But what about God? The truth is that we were not created to force God's Will; we were created to trust God's Will. As sons and daughters, there are three things we can do to ensure that it is God's Will we are getting and not our own. One, we must learn to not allow other people's opinions about a situation or person in our lives to rule over our actions; two, we must focus on allowing God's Will to control our behavior; and three, we must filter God's words into each situation so that we can live in victory.
Not allowing people's opinions about a situation or person in our own lives to rule us is one of the hardest things. If it is the opinion of someone close to us, it is easy to take it and run with it. The truth is that is not how God operates. He created us to listen to Him. When we allow God's truth to control our actions instead of the opinions of others, we not only display trust in God's words, but we also display stillness. We learn to be still and know that He is God. We learn that opinions are just words, but we place our faith in the words of the One who created the world.
Focusing on God's Will and allowing it to control our behavior takes us out of the situation. When it comes to God's Will and promises, we tend to want to insert ourselves into the process. We end up forcing something that was never meant to be forced. The truth of God's Will and promises is that they come naturally into our lives. To take our hands off the wheel, we must learn to let go of our expectations for the situation or person and place all our expectations on God. We go from situation-focused to God-focused.
Lastly, we must filter God's words into each situation and into each of our thoughts and emotions. God is our filter. He has preeminence, He is supreme, and He holds all things in everyday life. He can filter everything that crosses our minds and everything that affects our emotions.
Using God as a filter brings victory to the lies we believe, to the opinions we hear, and to the feelings we have. God is our victory and brings victory into the lives of His children, and He can do this every day. So today, sons and daughters, let's walk in the truth of God's words and allow them to rule and filter everything we think and feel. Let God be your victory.
