The Importance Of God Is So Much More Valuable Than The Importance Of Social Media

The Importance Of God Is So Much More Valuable Than The Importance Of Social Media

Lasting value comes from God, not a social media account.

All the time while I am scrolling through my Instagram feed, I see girls and guys post pictures that show them at parties and other social gatherings. When I am heading to work and class on the bus, I always see girls take selfies and I just shake my head. I think "why would a guy care if your hair looks good on a bus?" I genuinely don't understand the reason why girls take many selfies.

I don't understand why many of millennials today place so much of their value on their social media accounts. The truth behind the fun photos on the "gram" and the numerous selfies on Snapchat is a human with a flawed life. A life that is not perfect.

Our lives not being perfect is just the reality of our human status. As long as we are in human bodies, we will never be perfect. So why does our generation place so much importance on social media, something that in the grand scheme of things, doesn't matter that much?

We should find our value, our importance and our glory from the Lord.

The Lord is the only person who can give our lives meaning and our lives purpose. We are uniquely designed by God with different gifts given to us by Him. The purpose of a Christian's life is to live out their lives for God. We should use our gifts given to us by God to bring glory to His name.

Now I understand that not everyone is a believer of Jesus Christ. That is okay. God designed us to have free will. A free will to choose whether to serve Him or not. It's a heavy, very personal choice. Not everyone wants to live out their lives for God.

But these people who are not believers are missing out on the love, kindness, joy, mercy, and goodness only the Lord can provide.

To those people, I feel sorry for you and I am praying for you daily. I hope everyone in this world gives their lives over to the Lord. A life serving the Lord is a rewarding life. Nothing can compare to the joy you feel when you give your life over to God. Nothing can compare to the joy you feel when you lead a lost person to Christ.

I hope you can find your hope and your value in Jesus Christ and God.

Lately, I have felt lost at what God wants for my life. Ever since I've come back to UWG everything has been horrible. It seems that I can't catch a break. I'm trying my best to focus on school, work, and extracurricular activities. But it's hard when I'm having issues with my apartment/roommates and knowing my family back home is struggling and needs many prayers. All, I keep thinking is maybe Carrollton isn't where I belong anymore. I've asked God if He can guide me in the right direction. Below, I have found Bible verses that have helped get me through these rough, past couple of weeks.

1. Isaiah 43:2

"When you go through deep waters, I will be with you."

2. Psalm 37:5

"Commit your way to the Lord. Trust in Him, and He will act."

3. Romans 8:18

"The pain that you've been feeling, can't compare to the joy that's coming."

4. Proverbs 31:25

"She is clothed in strength, and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future."

5. Joshua 1:9

"Be bold. Be brave. Be courageous."

6. Ecclesiastes 3:1

"There is a time for everything and a reason for every activity under the heavens."

7. Isaiah 41:10

"Don't be afraid, for I am with you. Don't be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand."

8. Isaiah 66:9

"I will not cause pain without allowing something new to be born, says the Lord."

9. Psalm 91:4

"He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings, you will find refuge; His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart."

10. Psalm 62:1-2

"My soul finds rest in God alone, my salvation comes from Him, He alone is my rock and my salvation."

11. Philippians 4:13

"I can do everything through Christ who gives me strength."

12. Jeremiah 29:11

"For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

An Egg Broke Kylie Jenner's Record For Most-Liked Post On Instagram, Finally Proving Likes Mean Nothing

Kylie, you've been "beat."

Recently, the account @world_record_egg posted a picture of a brown egg with a caption asking to set the world record for most likes on Instagram. Kylie Jenner held this record with 18 million likes on a picture of her and her daughter, Stormi.

A week after the picture of an egg was posted, the record had been broken. The picture currently has a little more than 46 million likes.

Not only was the record broken, but Instagram has now verified the account with a blue check. The person running the account has made merch including sweatshirts and t-shirts that say "Egg Gang" on them. Since the photo went viral so quickly, there have been multiple people trying to claim that they are the owner of the account.

After the record had been broken, Kylie responded on her Instagram by posting a meme of herself. In the video, she is cracking an egg on hot asphalt. She then captioned the picture "Take that little egg." While it is pretty concerning that an egg managed to almost double the number of likes she received last year, she is not taking the situation too seriously.

This whole situation just goes to show how Instagram's algorithm can spread a photo primarily based off who engages with it. It also demonstrates how unimportant likes are.

A stock image egg received this many likes, so should we really be basing our self worth on them? The answer is no, it is so easy to double-tap a picture and go on with your day and that's exactly how this photo blew up.

Finally, it represents what we can do when we come together: make an egg "break" the internet.

2019 is looking like it is going to be a year to remember.
