Every year, I make a list of goals for myself for the upcoming year. It usually involves being more active, spending more time with the people that I love things like that. For 2018, I have the same basic goals but there is something that I really want to achieve in 2018 and it is spending less time on my phone checking social media. You may think that I am not serious about this and that it probably won’t happen but I am willing to give it a try. I spend far too much time obsessing over social media such as Snapchat, Twitter, Instagram and Facebook just to name a few. I have all of these apps right at my fingertips on my phone and computer. It is the first thing I do in the morning and the last thing I do at night. My goal is to spend less time worrying about social media and more time living in the moment and experiencing life. I spend too much time caring about what others are posting and not enough time actually having meaningful conversations with the people in front of me. So with all of this being said, this is what I hope to accomplish in 2018 in regards to social media:
- Limit myself to dedicating one time a day checking my accounts. I will only spend about 2 to 5 minutes looking at the app before closing it.
- Put my phone down and away when out with friends and family and actually engage in conversation.
- Post less updates on my accounts and live more in the moment. Pictures can be taken but not posted.
- Remove my bookmarked social media sites from my computer in an effort to stop going on them all together.
- Live life in a fuller way! Spend more time outside doing things with people and less time holed up in my room.
I hope to accomplish all of the things on the list and more. I want to be able to stop relying so much on social media to live my life and to stop letting it control my emotions. It is unhealthy!
Wish me luck, I definitely need it!
