Although college students are thought to be "grown-ups," we are really still kids at heart, which is why I found it fitting to give potential goals for college students through Spongebob gifs.

1. GO TO CLASS

You'd think the fact that you have to pay to even go to college would be motivation enough to go to class, but you'd be surprised how many people don't even show up after the first day until the week before the final.

2. And then actually pay attention

What's the point in paying for classes and going to classes if all you're going to do is sit there and act like you are taking notes on your computer when you are really just texting people and online shopping? You can do that after class.

3. Start strong, stay strong

During the first week or so, we typically are on top of things: using our planner, doing our homework early, studying for quizzes, and reading the textbook. However, by the second or third week, that all fades. Try to start strong and stay strong this next semester!

4. Be proactive with your time

Have an hour or so between classes? Do your homework instead of going to get coffee and scrolling through social media (that way you won't have to stay up late doing it).

5. Actually read assigned readings

I know... this is boring. But maybe it will pay off in the end.

6. Don't procrastinate

Or at least try not to.

7. Find a good study spot

Having a few different places around campus that you like to study will help you be more proactive with your study time because sitting in just one place day after day will get old really fast.

8. Then put down your phone and actually study

Limit your social media use everyday so you can get more school work done.

9. Get a decent amount of sleep every night

Just like with not procrastinating... at least try to.

10. Review class notes

This will be you when you're studying for finals if you don't review notes as you go.

11. Go to office hours

Most professors remember who came to office hours to see how they could do their best in the class, which pays off!

12. (Attempt to) have an eating schedule

Wake up early enough to eat breakfast. And maybe instead of grabbing food at the union every night, try to cook something once a week.

13. Drink more water

Less soda, more water.

14. Get and use a planner

If you don't keep up with due dates and test dates in a planner, this will be you when you realize at midnight you have an exam in your 8 a.m. you haven't started studying for.

15. Be involved on campus

You don't need to overload yourself, but being involved in at least one thing on campus outside of class is a great way to take a break from studying and to get to know other people on campus.

16. Call home every now and then

If you're like me, you already call home a lot. But if you're not, try to call home and let your family know you miss them and are appreciative of all they do for you.

17. Make time for friends

You need breaks from school work every now and then.

18. Make time for yourself

And sometimes breaks from school work are best spent eating popcorn and watching Netflix.

19. Enjoy being a college student

As stressful as being a college student can be, I know we are going to miss it one day. So enjoy it while you can!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
