Let's face it, as a young adult who is in the middle of college taking classes full time, a job part-time and an internship my life is a little hectic. I think I speak for all college students by saying we are just overloaded and overwhelmed with work. Whether it be school work or stuff for jobs, or internships, or emails, or grad school applications, getting our life together seems to be impossible and never-ending.
There are simply not enough hours in the day to get everything done and under control. On top of everything that needs to get done, we need to find the time to take care of ourselves and at least eat a decent meal.
I do not think that many people realize the immense pressure that college students are put under. We are thrown into adulthood and left to figure everything out on our own at the age of eighteen.
I don't know about you, but I constantly have about fifty tabs open on my computer, and it is not like I'm online shopping or anything. I'll have six homework assignments open, two internship assignments open and my email with fifty unopened messages that need a response.
It seems to be this never-ending cycle that occurs weekly.
We are so bombarded with assignments and work that we never take the proper time to take care of ourselves.
We want all of the work to stop for just a little bit so we can catch our breath.
The amount of work we are given and expectations we are held to gives us so much stress and anxiety that even when our computers are off and our pencils are down, our brains are still going and still worrying.
I wish that I could close all of those tabs, turn my computer off and relax for a day. That is the dream, isn't it?
Why can't we make it a reality?
Organization is key. I know it is easier said than done but start small you will be able to work your way up. Start by getting ahead at the beginning of the week and you might be able to save yourself some work and stress later in the week. If you get ahead, you just might be able to leave yourself some time for relaxation and self-care.
With the busy college lifestyle, it is easy to forget to do the simple things to take care of yourself, like eating.
Self-care is more important than you realize. Make sure you are taking the time to look after yourself. Turn the computer off, put away the notebook and focus on what you need to give yourself more peace of mind.
Make sure that you are taking care of both your mind and body because you are most important.
