Why should the unique type of fruit be incorporated into your diet?

Recent studies show that avocado is highly nutritious. Different from other fruits, avocados are high in healthy fats. Incorporating this green fruit into your diet would not bring on any harm but in fact powerful benefits to your health. Here are some health benefits of the delicious fruit.

1. They surpass bananas with their level of potassium.

Avocados are very high in potassium, an important mineral that most peoples diets do not contain enough of. Potassium supports healthy blood pressure levels, and avocados have 4% more potassium in each serving than bananas!

2. Fiber, fiber, fiber!

Avocados have a very high level of fiber compared to other foods. Fiber can contribute to weight loss and is great for metabolic health. In every serving of avocado contains 7 grams of fiber, 25% of which is soluble, which means this fiber can feed the good gut bacteria in the intestine, which is essential to the optimal function of our bodies.

3. They are filled with nutrients.

Avocados contain at least 10% or more of Vitamin B5, B6, C, E, K, Folate, and Potassium, as well as smaller amounts of Magnesium, Manganese, Copper, Iron, Zinc, Phosphorous and Vitamin A, B1, B2, B3.

They do not contain any cholesterol or sodium and they are very low in saturated fat.

They do contain 9 grams of carbs, however, 7 of those are fiber which leaves 2 "net" carbs.

Healthy Fats! Yay!

4. They protect the eyes!

Avocados are high in antioxidants, including the nutrients Lutein and Zeaxanthin which are incredibly important to eye health.

5. Avocados prevent cancer!

One study shows that avocados may help reduce side effects of chemotherapy in human lymphocytes. Also, avocado extract has been shown to stop the growth of prostate cancer cells.

There are more than just 5 reasons as to why avocados can contribute to a happier, healthier, new year. Perhaps find ways to incorporate this delicious, tasty food into your diet!

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
