Unpopular opinion, but the new "Ghostbusters" was so lit! And yes I have seen the original before that crowd tries to come for me. After watching the movie and knowing others that have watched it, the overall consensus seems to be that "Ghostbuster"s was very enjoyable and highly entertaining. So why the hell are some folks so hellbent on dragging it through the mud?
Well the first thing I noticed before the film even came out was that there was outrage, not solely because they were remaking a classic, but because they cast women in the iconic roles. Yes, that’s why. In 2016 we still can’t grasp the fact that women can be funny too. Did we forget about Bridesmaids, which starred the very hilarious Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy, who also star in "Ghostbusters"? I’m not getting the inconsistency. The very funny Leslie Jones was maliciously attacked on Twitter by cowardly racists as well as upsetting a few in the African American community for her character being “too stereotypical." I quote it that because it’s not like she was clapping her hands and rolling’ her neck and all that jazz so I’m confused as to where that idea came from. But her character Patty is definitely one of the film's strong suits! And Kate McKinnon’s portrayal of the very quirky (and hopefully queer) Jillian Holtzmann slayed! One cannot deny how awesome Holtzmann is even if you didn’t like the movie.
So I get the OGs being upset by a remake, but I can’t support those who are mad because they're women. I mean, there’s even a meme that went around that had male actors who fan’s felt should be the new Ghostbusters. They kept enough similarities between the new one and the original, the biggest being that they cast SNL alums, and they even had cameos from some of the OGs! It's the same brand of humor, although yes, some it was aimed more towards the ladies, but so what? Are women not allowed to laugh too?
So I have to say if you didn’t like the new "Ghostbusters", you probably didn't like the original one either, or better yet, you haven't seen the original one, so you couldn't be upset about a remake (yes, there are people who have not seen "Ghostbusters". Shameful, I know). But my verdict is the "Ghostbusters" legacy has not been tainted in anyway. I ain’t afraid of no ghosts or funny women and you shouldn’t be either.
