We all have been enjoying every moment of summer, with its sporadic holidays, breezy evenings, countless vacations, etc. But it's no surprise to many that as soon as we're fifty shades deep into the hottest season of the year, we want the temperature to drop drastically. This especially rings true for when we're in what's traditionally known as the "dog days" of summer— that phenomenon describes the heatwaves that come and go throughout the entirety of July and some of August, which is when most of us expect to have the best time in the summer. However, the crisp feel of autumn still hangs over. And we can't stop wanting it more and more.
If you live on your college campus and you're in one of your first three years, then congratulations! You don't have to worry at all about the weather affecting how you live during the semester. But if you're a senior, a postgraduate or if you commute to the campus, then you most likely don't have that same luxury. Not coming from a mean place, but it must be undeniably true for you. For you, getting ready for fall means that you have to give your living space an appropriate makeover, cleaning out your closet and winterproofing your garden (if you have one). Doesn't seem easy, but it's worth it.
However, us college students on campus don't have it completely easy when prepping for fall— dealing with the coursework of our majors/minors and keeping up with our extra-curricular demands, we barely get anytime to enjoy the season. Also, we have to plan out our spring schedules not long after we start classes. On top of that, we're almost always broke. Does anybody realize just how hard it can be to get costumes for Halloween, even though we gotta feed ourselves? It's an odyssey! And don't get me started on ending up in a class you didn't plan on being a part of.
But on the bright side, fall means that we get to see all our friends again. Together, you can go to as many sporting events as possible, and root on your home team. Not to mention, someone to study and Netflix 'n' chill with. If you're studying abroad, then that's even better because you get to have your fall semester shaped by where you go. And if you're a freshman or a transfer student, and haven't found any new friends at Accepted Students' Day or Summer Orientation, then this season is a perfect time to do just that!
One other thing I like about getting ready for fall is the excitement that it brings— I can name a few things off the top of my head that get me excited for the semester. First and foremost, I get to see everyone else in my class, who's been busy dealing with their summer jobs and internships. Second, I get to experience plenty of holidays this season, such as Columbus Day, Halloween, Veterans' Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Last but not least, I get to try new things and learn more about certain subjects.
So goodbye, summer, and hello, fall semester. Ready or not, here I come!
