The Bulldogs' pro day took place on March 20, 2019. The pro day is a variation of the NFL combine for individual college programs. NFL scouts, coaches, and executives are invaded and often attend to see players who were not invited to the NFL combine.
In some cases, the pro day is a chance to participate in drills once again that a player was previously unsuccessful in.
Both Isaac Nauta and Elijah Holyfield will be looking to shake the label of the slowest at their positions. Holyfield ran a surprisingly slow 40-yard dash time at the combine, as did Nauta. Holyfield repeated the 40 and once again came up with a slow time. He is in historically bad company with other running backs that did not make it in the NFL. Speed is key but he has a good chance to shake that notion due to his style of play relying mostly on strength.
D'Andre Walker will be watched closely during his workouts because he was unable to participate in the NFL combine due to undergoing groin surgery. He is looked at as a puzzling prospect as he doesn't have a clear position on an NFL defense. He is running between undersized pass rusher and sluggish pass defender. He certainly has the tools to improve in the right system, though, and find his niche.
Notable players being monitored closely:
Deandre Baker CB
Lamont Gaillard OL
Terry Godwin WR
Mecole Hardman WR
Elijah Holyfield RB
Jonathan Ledbetter DE
Isaac Nauta TE
Riley Ridley WR
D'Andre Walker EDGE
In the past few seasons since Kirby Smart took over, the Bulldogs have been known to put out excellent prospects. Both Nick Chubb and Sony Michel are certainly helping Holyfield's case as they have excelled at the next level due to the way they were taught and coached at Georgia.
Notable NFL coaches and execs in attendance:
Bill Belichick (NE Patriots coach)
Thomas Demitroff (Falcons GM)
Jon Robinson (Titans GM)
Bob Quinn (Lions GM)
It is no surprise to see Belichick at the event, especially after the Patriots selected two former Bulldogs Isaiah Wynn and Sony Michel. Both have impressed in their lone year with the team.
The Atlanta Falcons are almost certainly looking at both Deandre Baker and Lamont Gaillard as defensive back and offensive line are two of the teams most pressing needs.
Former Georgia standouts who were not invited to the combine are looking to make their presences known as this is their first opportunity to work out for NFL executives. Natrez Patrick, Juwan Taylor, and Kendall Baker highlight the players hoping to get their names out there in the draft.
The NFL draft will begin on Thursday, April 25th at 9pm and will wrap up on Saturday, April 27th.
The draft will be held in Nashville, Tennessee.
