With his newest album, The Beautiful and Damned, having been released two months ago, Gerald Earl Gillum, better known by his stage name G-Eazy, is continuing to show that there's no stopping him. After attending his concert in Dallas, TX on February 17, 2018… there is no doubt in my mind he's continuing his rise.
My night at this concert actually started with a VIP meet and greet with Gerald himself.
In my share of years having met celebrities through jobs or events, I would have to say this is definitely a top three moment. Meeting Gerald was everything I could have asked for and more.
He was incredibly kind and interested in anything my mouth blabbed out. He took notice of my phone case and after I told him I actually created it myself with all of my fav photos of him, he couldn't help but to check it all out himself and point out some specific ones as he reminisced on some of the photos that go way back.
After the M&G was over, those of us with VIP or early entry were able to get our places in the pit area. Not too long after the pavilion filled quickly, the night began with up-and-coming artist Anthony Russo, performing a smooth set including his popular song 'California' and his newest single '2:a.m.'
Following that was 23-year-old rapper Phora, who takes the audience on an ride through their emotions with each and every song written from real experiences that fans can actually relate to. & lastly, Trippie Redd pumped up the audience, who performed his hit songs, 'Love Scars' and 'Dark Knight Dummo.'
After solid sets from all of his openers, the audience awaited for G-Eazy's set to begin. All of a sudden, the indoor pavilion of Toyota Music Factory went black. In that moment, screams rose from the audience and the words ACT I THE BEAUTIFUL appeared on stage. As the words faded away, the first track of the album “The Beautiful and Damned" started to play through the speakers and G-Eazy calmly walked out towards the mic as the cheering increases. From the moment on, the performance level was set and did not disappoint.
After a good mix of songs from TB&D and even some oldies like 'I Mean It' and 'Order More,' G quickly had a wardrobe change into which he went from the all-black get up to an all-white outfit. This was the transition into what showed on the stage as ACT II THE DAMNED. In this section, he continued to play songs from TB&D as well as some classics from WIDO like 'Random,' 'Calm Down,' and 'You Got Me.'
Throughout his performance, he mentions many times how blessed he felt to be doing what he was doing and the gratefulness he has towards his fans. G-Eazy has built a very big fan base in the way he creates a special bond between himself and his audience during his incredible live performances.
Jumping from one end of the stage to the other, dancing around, and having the time of his life, Gerald without a doubt has the time of his life. Coming back out on stage to ACT III EPILOGUE, his encore, the 28-year-old had the same amount of energy, if not even more, as he did when he first stepped out on stage. His encore consisted of three of his biggest hits 'Him and I,' 'Me, Myself, and I,' and 'No Limit.' G-Eazy and his fans have a close connection and he doesn't disappoint his fans... which is even more of a reason why it was a sold out show.
Since his first full album was released in 2009, Gerald has made his way from a dorky college rapper into a EXTREMELY well groomed "hip-hop heartthrob" with a mix of a darker vibe. From his energy, presence on the stage and an amazing ability to really get deep and bond with his audience, Gerald truly delivered a performance so well that it showed his transition to the next level with his career.
The Beautiful and Damned Tour is 100% worth it. G-Eazy's vibes are to way to hard to fight and will bring to life any crowd. He will have you enjoying the time of your life at any venue around the world. Add it to your bucket list.
