'Friends' Is Overrated, And You Can Fight Me On That

Yes, I have seen all ten seasons. Yes, I know it is an important part of television history. I am extremely aware of all the references and how it is binge-watched on Netflix. I know these things because it's all anyone seems to recommend me.

Every article I see involves the show Friends. It's coming to a point where if you don't like Friends you suddenly have bad taste in television.

I am a certified basic bitch and even I don't like Friends. Any time my friends suggest watching it on Netflix, I immediately fall ill. I will go home to avoid it. If I have to see another "Chandler Quotes For Spring Break" compilation on my Facebook feed, I will delete the app.

I get that the show has a lot of relatable moments with simple punchlines that many people experience. Sitcoms have a time and place and Friends should stay back in 2004. With the amazing content Netflix continues to release, how is it that this outdated show continues to dominate the conversation?

Should I also mention how it rips off the 1970s sitcom Cheers? There are several videos comparing the two shows. Not one original idea seems to stem from Friends. It's held in a regard close to shows like The Wire and for me, that's concerning.

Liking Friends is not a personality trait. I want to shout this from the rooftops. When I was on Tinder before I met my boyfriend, every guy had that they liked Friends or referred to themselves as the "Chandler" or "Joey" of the group in their profile. THIS SHOULD NOT COUNT AS A REASON TO DATE A PERSON. Anyone can like a show and still be an asshole. Swipe left.

I understand that this was made during a different time period, but I am tired of this problematic show dominating pop culture. With so many shows appearing now with a diverse cast, why does this one have to still be relevant? History is important, but the amount of attention this show receives is ridiculous.

If you like Friends, that isfine. I am not attacking your taste in TV. I am attacking the culture surrounding the mediocre show. I get that the point of this show is to be relatable and there's nothing wrong with that.

I am just tired of the same conversations being held over and over again. My opinion is certainly in the minority and the actors of Friends are clearly doing just fine after the show. If you want to fight me, square up.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
