The beginning of every school year comes with a lot of thought and a lot of emotion. You think about your friends, your classes, your clubs, etc. These thoughts are feelings change every year. One of the biggest differences in the pre-school year thought patterns is the contrast between one's freshmen and sophomore year of college. Your thoughts on making friends, packing, and joining clubs are drastically different when you are a sophomore, than compared to when you were a freshman.

Making friends
We all know making friends can be really hard, especially when making a fresh start. College is most definitely making a fresh start, unless you decide to attend an institution where most of the people you went to high school with also attend. When starting this journey, you want to make as many friends as possible, mostly because you want to be as popular, or even more popular than you were in high school. You find yourself being very friendly to everyone and trying to become best friends with them right off of the bat. When you're a sophomore, things are a little bit different. By now, you have established a few close friends, maybe one best friend, and you are really only looking for expand your circle of acquaintances. You are as nice to everyone, you are more reserved as a sophomore than you ever were as a freshman.

Packing
Let's be honest a lot of us start planning and packing for our freshman year of college the day after we graduate high school (if not before). We want everything from color coordinated linens and comforters, to handmade fabric headboards and canvases. When we finally get to move into our freshman dorm room, we bring way too much stuff that we'll never use, including all those yearbooks from high school, and the stuffed animal you've had since you were a toddler. When sophomore year rolls around, you realize you only really need the necessities. Those yearbooks will collect dust at home on your bedroom book shelf, the fabric headboard goes into the trash, but let's be honest, the stuffed animal still stays, because you can never cast away Henry, the old, matted up lion that you've cuddled with every night. Becoming a sophomore makes you realize just how much less is more.

Joining clubs
When you come to college as a freshman, you notice all the clubs you can join and you want to join all of them. Some you join immediately, others you put off until later. You sit on the fence about a few, but just let the deadline pass. When you are a sophomore you realize you're running out of time and jump on the bandwagon as soon as you can because you're not getting any younger, and anything you can put on your resume is worth it.

Do any of these thoughts ring a bell? Are there some thoughts you think I left out? I hope this small tidbit list gave you some nostalgia to lean on or some laughs about your own thoughts as a freshman and sophomore.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
