When someone wrongs you, it can seem like your relationship with them is over. They've hurt you so badly that you're never going to be able to look at them the same. Many people today decide to keep grudges with the person that has done them wrong, but this only causes hateful and negative thoughts.
A way to come to peace with someone's wrongdoings is by forgiving them. This is what God commands us to do. In Colossians 3:13, we are commanded to "Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you." We can sin over and over again and walk away from God but he's still there waiting for us when we ask for forgiveness.
God is ready to forgive just as we should be. When others do us wrong, we should remember the way The Bible commands us to forgive and forget. When we forgive others we are shining the light of god through us.
Here is a prayer for forgiveness you can pray if you need to forgive someone:
Thank you Jesus for dying in my place that I might be forgiven. By an act of my will I now choose to forgive others who have hurt me or sinned against me.
I forgive _________ for __________ (be specific as to what you're forgiving the person for)
I give them the gift of unconditional forgiveness. They owe me nothing. I entrust them to you, God. I bless them in your name.
Amen
