city of cleveland

Welcome to the greatest city in the world: Cleveland, Ohio.

You are now in the Land and the food scene is the arguably the best part of the city. You have everything from Little Italy to East 4th, even if you're like me and you're broke as crap because of college, you can find a good, honest meal for a price that doesn't make your bank account turn red.

No matter what kind of food is your favorite, there are tons of options for everyone. Here are just a few of my all time favorites.

1. Barrio

Located on the corner of Prospect and East 4th, Barrio is a Cleveland staple. Three dollar tacos, bomb-ass queso, and some amazing drinks make Barrio the place for watch parties and late nights. Open until 2:30 a.m. means that Barrio is the go to place for a quick bite while you up all night studying.

2. Otani Noodle

Otani Noodle is your go-to for authentic ramen. Located on Euclid just a few steps from East 2nd makes it easily accessible from the Q or Progressive Field.

3. Wahlburgers

Located on Ontario right next to the JACK Casino and steps away from the Q makes the Cleveland location of Wahlburgers one of my favorites. They have amazing sweet potato tots and lots of options if you don't feel too hungry. Also, as someone who has IBS, they have never once made my stomach upset, which means their food is not greasy.

4. Colossal Cupcakes

Holy cupcakes Batman! These cupcakes are a little up there in price, but are oh-so worth it. With flavors from Fruity Pebbles to Oreo Dirt, this shop on Euclid will satisfy your sweet tooth.

5. Taco Bell Cantina

The Cantina in Cleveland will make every other Taco Bell look like a gas station bathroom to you. They serve alcohol all day, and the staff is always smiling and making you laugh. Catch it right next to public square on Euclid Ave.

Bloom Bakery

This little bakery is always serving up fresh baked granola bars, coffee, muffins, cookies and more with fair trade ingredients and AMAZING flavor. Located right across the street from the Taco Bell Cantina means you can grab a coffee to go with your taco.

Westside Market

This Cleveland tradition has been a fan favorite for over a hundred years. High quality goods meet low prices at this beautiful market. Get a gyro and buy some fruit for your breakfast the next day with enough pocket change left to buy yourself a giant cookie.

Bombay Chaat

Don't be shy of this little restaurant on Euclid and East 21st, this place serves up the best Indian street food. Cleveland State students are almost always eating here because of the amazing flavors and low price.

9. Chipotle

This is a no brainer. Chipotle. Need I say more?

10. Lemonberry

What isn't to love about frozen yogurt with hundreds of topping options? Pay for it by the ounce and enjoy the boardgames to pass the time.

11. Insomnia Cookies

There is nothing better than warm cookies and milk. Insomnia cookies come to you, hot, fresh, and screaming to be eaten.

12. Yours Truly

What's better than a home-cooked meal in the middle of the city? The perfect place to grab some brunch on a lazy Sunday morning.

All around, the best way to find the best food in Cleveland is to ask the people who live here. We will always tell it to you straight. May your bellies be full and your spirits be happy.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
