The Front Bottoms caught a lot of exposure with their new album Going Grey and the world tour that's following. I was lucky enough to stand front row this past November to witness this perfection live and in person.
As with all concerts, hearing the lyrics live from the person who wrote them just makes that much more powerful. Here are five Front Bottoms lyrics that make me sob every time.
1. "Whatever I did for you last year, I cannot do again."
I use this one all the time and have even thought about it getting tattooed on my body. Letting go of someone in any situation is hard, realizing you can't be there for an overly toxic person like you used to be...20 times harder.
2. "You are the reason I'm smiling when there is nothing to smile about."
Arguably the most iconic TFB song in existence, arguably the most iconic lyrics. Looking up to the stage, seeing Brian's eyes closed, beer cans at his feet as he sang the song he had memorized to perfection was an experience for me.
Of course, they saved Peach for one of the last songs, so I was already a hot mess but...it was amazing nonetheless.
3. "You are still here, you are still smiling and laughing. You are still the only thing and everything I need in my life."
Flashlight is my second favorite song. I think this one ties in with Cough It Out, missing someone is so hard and going through that period of still feeling their presence, smelling their perfume, seeing them walk down the hall is the hardest part.
4. "What about your friends don't you love them enough to stay? I say if I don't leave now I will never get away."
I come from a small town hardly anyone gets out of. I have friends, and even a boyfriend, who is younger than me. They're still in the town I grew up in, I go home to see them all the time.
But honestly, when they all graduate and move away...I'll have no excuse to go back. Leaving this past summer was the hardest thing I've ever done but I had to, and I am lucky enough that those who are important enough understand.
5. "I took a lot of day trips, trying to get away trips, sorry I have cold lips, nothing left to say lips."
Joanie doesn't get the love it deserves and I don't think this line does either. My favorite thing about TFB lyrics is you can take them out of context of the song to relate into any aspect of your life.
This one I like to relate back to toxic friendships and ending the connection by saying nothing at all.
In the world of indie rock/folk punk/emo music...the, front bottoms have it all and lyrics that never fail to get me all wrapped up in my feels.
