As people, we have the tendency to put others happiness and feelings before ours. Which in some cases in perfectly fine. Although, what happens to our mentality when we find ourselves putting others before us every single day?
We have to take a step back and remember that our bodies and our mental health are just as important as our relationships with the important people in our lives. We must remember that finding our happiness in life is just important as seeing our very best friends finding theirs. So it is perfectly okay to one day to just step back and take a breath and say “Today is my day.”
Let that be your beginning, your first step because we know it's not easy after all your life of putting people before you to automatically thinking about yourself first. It's about taking baby steps. You have to imagine how amazing it is going to feel to truly have a smile on your face once you take a day filling it with your favorite things.
Wake up and read that book you’ve been putting off because you usually run errands for multiple people day in and day out. Go to your favorite store and try on that dress you’ve been eying. Splurge on yourself and buy it. Go to that brand new restaurant with the cute boy that’s been asking to see you for weeks. Maybe even spend the day trying new hobbies or looking up a place to go on vacation.
We only have one life to live, and as good as it feels to help other people feel happiness, we have to put happiness first from time to time. At the risk of losing what makes us, us. That doesn’t mean stop helping your friends out, it just means, on the days your feeling lost, make sure to take a step back and find yourself.
