About three months ago, I had nothing else to do besides trapping myself in the warmth of my dorm and binge watching movies. I had a random urge to watch Fifty Shades of Grey (again), and that's where my obsession was re-sparked.
Ever since that night, I've been completely obsessed with the movies. I guess you can call me a fake fan because I've never read the books, but I have seen each movie enough to remember the plot like the back of my hand.
With "Fifty Shades Darker" being the best, in my opinion, of the movies, I was sure "Fifty Shades Freed" would leave me speechless. My roommate and I decided to ignore the fact that tickets are $15 on a regular day and went on February 9th (yes, opening night).
I hate to say it, but I was slightly disappointed. If you have yet to see the movie, stop reading this. Because I'm about to give away some details that may leave you feeling cheated if you haven't gotten around to seeing it.
Christian Grey, abandoning his dominant ways, asked Ana for her hand in "Fifty Shades Darker" after winning her back. After spending their honeymoon in France, the two returned to Seattle after a fire set off in one of Grey's buildings by none other than Jack Hyde.
As anyone would expect with the type of relationship Christian and Ana share, she finds out she's pregnant halfway through the movie. This occurance leaves the couple in a rocky road and even jeopradizes their marriage as whole.
The rest of the movie, to my disliking, focused entirely on Jack Hyde and his power to destroy Christian and Ana's life.
I understand that an hour and 40 minute movie can only depict so much, but I left the theater feeling both confused and sad (mainly because this was the last movie). I still had so many unanswered questions from the second film: What exactly made Christian change? Like, how can Christian go from someone with no interest in love, to marrying Ana? What happened to Elena?
Those were only three questions I could come up with at the moment, but in all, I expected more. "It wasn't kinky enough," my best friend Emma joked. However, my unfortunate feelings towards "Fifty Shades Freed" did not eliminate my love for the series or my insane crush on Jamie Dornan.
On a lighter note, the "Fifty Shades Freed" soundtrack is incredible. It features singers such as Rita Ora, Liam Payne, Sia, and Jessie J. There's even a bonus track sang by the movie's very own Jamie Dornan. Is there anything he can't do?
I loved the way James Foley decided to end the film. By recapping scenes throughout the evolution of Christian and Ana's relationship, with "Love Me Like You Do" by Ellie Golding playing in the background, he definitely captured a sentimental feeling throughout the theater.
Despite my bashes on the movie, I may or may not have seen the movie for the second time within the past week. So I guess you could say I didn't dislike it that much.
