Nothing is more powerful than a woman who is ambitious and determined. TV provides us with female role models who inspire us to take our life by the reigns and show the world how strong girl power truly is. These eight women have paved the way for me when I watch their shows and I hope that they make you feel as empowered and beautiful as you are.
1. Leslie Knope-- Parks and Recreation
Although she can be as quirky as it gets, Leslie Knope does not let anything stop her from bettering Indiana's Parks and Recreation Department. She truly embodies the idea of never giving up on something that you care about, and her character inspires women everywhere to pursue their passion no matter what it is. Plus, who doesn't love waffles?
2. Olivia Pope-- Scandal
Next we have the queen of Washington DC's political scene, Olivia Pope. As one of the best political fixers in the game, she solves anything that comes her way with grace and fierceness that is unmatched by anyone else. As someone studying Political Science, I look to Olivia Pope on how to solve a problem and provide insight on any situation. Her love of wine is also something we can relate to.
3. Blair Waldorf-- Gossip Girl
Whether its scheming against Manhattan's elite or successfully running her mother's fashion line, Blair Waldorf can do it all. Her amazing sense of style paired with her ability to desire to accomplish her goals before wedding Chuck Bass proves that its possible to have a career and your dream man at the same time. I wouldn't mind wearing a tiara from time to time as well.
4. Hermione Granger-- Harry Potter
As one of Hogwarts most intelligent students, I don't think there's anything Hermione Granger can't do. Her loyalty to Harry and Ron along with her spell-casting ability make her a character every girl aspires to be throughout their teen years. Her Hogwarts uniform is also one of the most popular Halloween costumes for girls of all ages, showing that her influence has no age limit.
5. Mulan-- Mulan
Mulan is the real deal when it comes down to business to defeat the Huns. Volunteering to fight in place of her aging father and leading the Chinese to victory as a woman instead of pursuing an arranged marriage is revolutionary for her time, and proves that she is one of the best Disney heroines of all time. Keep fighting girl.
6. Elle Woods-- Legally Blonde
Alas, we have Elle Woods. Elle serves as the perfect example of proving your worth despite what others define you as. She constantly defies the stigma of being a stuck up sorority girl as she not only enrolls in Harvard Law School but claims Professor Callahan's prestigious internship over her toxic ex-boyfriend. Determination like this is hard to find and I'm glad we have it in our girl Elle.
7. Leigh Anne Tuohy-- The Blind Side
Leigh Anne Tuohy. The Tennessee mom who adopts Michael Oher into her home and goes against all her friend's assumptions to prove that he is just as welcome into her home as her own children. Leigh Anne takes no crap from anyone and shows how powerful a mother's love is. As an Ole Miss student, Leigh Anne is an incredible alumni of our school and does all of us Rebels proud.
8. Katniss Everdeen-- The Hunger Games
Provider for her family, volunteer for her sister, winner of the Hunger Games, and face of a revolution. Katniss Everdeen is truly an example of what it means to do the most with the life you're given. She fearlessly defies all odds and creates an empire with her as their defiant leader. I think we all wanted to be like Katniss when the Hunger Games came out just based on her personality and how she shows how strong she is. Or because kissing Josh Hutchinson or Liam Hemsworth wouldn't be bad at all. Either or.
