A Letter To My Family As I Grow Through College

Dear Family,

After over a year of being in college, you'd think it'd get easier for me to leave after every break or watch y'all drive out of Tuscaloosa after an eventful weekend with y'all here. It doesn't get easier. I still get sad thinking about all of you being over 400 miles away and me not being able to just drive back home to give you a hug when I miss you.

I still need you. I need you to call or text me every so often to check up on me. I still need you to tell me you love me and tell me you'll support me no matter what.

I get busy. Sometimes I can't always call you first and sometimes my mind is running a million different ways and I forget to text you. I have homework every day, I study all the time, and if I'm not in class or at the library I'm probably asleep.

I miss my dog too. Send me pictures of her every day, and when I facetime you just to see her, don't be upset, she's just my baby.

Most importantly, thank you. Thank you for always believing in me, and supporting me through this journey. I seriously don't know what I'd do if I didn't have such an amazing support system. I'm so thankful for you guys. Without y'all, I wouldn't be where I am now. I couldn't have made it this far if I didn't have every single one of you standing right behind me cheering me on.

To my parents, thank you for working so hard every single day to help me make my dream here at The University Of Alabama come true. Thank you guys for being the two biggest supporters I've ever had and never let me down. I love you two more than words could ever say.

To my grandparents, Thank you guys for being the reason I chose Alabama as my home for four years. Ever since I was three you always taught me that Alabama football was the best football and since then, I've never missed a game. Thank you guys for being apart of the biggest support system I've ever had and always making sure I'm okay. I could never repay you guys for the things you've done for me the past 20 years of my life.

To my 2 older brothers, I love you. Growing up with you two taught me a lot of things and for that, I'm forever thankful. Thank you both for making me as tough as I am today and always protecting me.

To the cousin, I'm closest to. Shoutout to you for always being the sister I've never had. I'm so thankful for the memories we've shared over the past 18 years of your life and I'm so thankful God chose you to be apart of mine. Thank you for being my biggest hype man and always being there for me no matter what. I seriously don't know what I would've done without having you by my side always.

To my aunt who does everything for me. Thank you for always being my shoulder to cry on and always giving me the best advice. Thanks for all the road trips, shopping trips, and nail salon trips we've taken over the past 20 years. Your support has meant the world to me the past 2 years I've known I was going to Alabama and words could never express how much you mean to me.

I never thought that my dream would come true but after 17 years of Bama being my dream school, you all made it happen. I could never repay you guys for all the love, support, and money you always send but growing up with such an amazing group of people really made this journey so much easier. Thank you guys for always pushing me to be the best version of myself I can be and never letting me go a day without knowing how loved I am. I love you guys and I'm doing this all for you.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
