10 Signs You Grew Up In The Early 2000s

You wished you could marry a Jonas Brother.

The 2000s was the start of a new century; and with it, came new innovations, new fads, and definitely a whole lot of music and TV. I remember growing up and having interests and obsessions that, looking back now, seemed extremely stupid or childish. But that's because I was a child.

I figured I would take it back to a place we all knew and loved: the good-ole-days. A few cringe-worthy memories never hurt anyone, did it?

If you were born in the late 1990s or early 2000s, these are some points you can definitely relate to.

1. Thinking that High School Musical was actually how high school operated in real life

For some reason, breaking out into song in the middle of a basketball game didn't strike me as odd as a child.

2. Thinking that Heelys were the most brilliant invention of our time

Who knew it could be so cool to roll around school on your sneakers?

3. Wishing you were Zach and Cody Martin and that you could live in the Tipton Hotel

I can't be the only one who wished they could ride around on luggage carts all day...

4. Spending all of your time after school on AIM or iChat

And, of course, the usernames were the best part. I remember mine being mcandygirl1999, a decision that now haunts me forever.

5. Wearing Juicy Couture sweatsuits

You knew this one was coming. Monochromatic velvet tracksuits. This basically explains it all. But to be honest, the worst part was the large J hanging from the zipper.

6. Collecting silly bands like your life depended on it

Bringing my Silly Bands in a large plastic bag and trading them at recess seems a lot sketchier now than it did back then.

7. Your Tamagotchi was your new best friend

Growing a pet inside a tiny screen with only three buttons seemed like a whirlwind of technology in my mind. And, don't forget, whenever your pet would die, a handy pencil poked in the back of the machine would reboot it. But oh, how these tiny digital pets would so easily be lost. I think I might have gone through at least 2 a month.

8. Remembering Lindsay Lohan for her days on The Parent Trap and Freaky Friday

Enough said.

9. Wishing you could marry a Jonas Brother, and then thinking that they could actually act

The Jonas Brothers comfortably adorned the front of my messenger bag throughout the entire 3rd grade, and their Camp Rock concerts were ones for the books. When Jonas and Jonas LA came out on the Disney Channel, I was so blinded by their sheer godliness that I didn't come to realize that three brothers living in an abandoned firehouse while in high school was just a TAD unrealistic.

10. Playing Webkinz or Club Penguin during Computer Class

The rivalry is real.

Hopefully you didn't cry, look away in hopes of forgetting this ever happened, or check the cost of a Tamagotchi on eBay. Oh, the nostalgia.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
