I think my experience with Facebook is similar to many other peoples experience that are around my age. Facebook was the first platform I was allowed to use because of parental limits. I was in seventh grade at the time and was as excited as any other pubescent schoolboy. I posted a lot of pointless statuses that involved the phrases "swag" and "Yolo". Not to mention the weekly "like my status for a rate and a to be honest" that was a staple of people my age. But, for all of the embarrassing aspects of Facebook there were many positive takeaways. One of which was that it opened up interaction to mass audiences. In a sense on social media sites you can communicate with almost anyone in the entire world if you so wish. This carried over not just with communication. My whole world had been expanded upon, I was able to dream bigger things. This was vital in my athletic endeavors because I was able to look up peoples progression all over the world, and friend global stars and gather information from them. However, on the flip side Facebook opened up more clique interactions at school. People who were more popular on Facebook tended to get more attention in real life.
