Everything I Want to Tell You About The New 'Beauty And The Beast' Film

When Disney first announced that they were creating a live-action remake of the 1991 classic Beauty and the Beast, one of my favorite Disney movies, the child within me couldn't wait to see it. When the film was released this past month, that inner child was doing cartwheels of excitement in the theater. Ok, so maybe I didn't twirl in circles around the moviegoers as they ate popcorn, but I was actually bouncing in my seat as the film started. And that level of excitement continued as the film progressed, and didn't subside for the duration of the movie and the rest of the day afterwards. And I haven't stopped talking about it since. Here's everything I want to tell you about this new take on a Disney family-favorite.

1. I loved the beginning. And the middle. And the end.

2. Okay, but seriously, the beginning was perfectly set up. It introduced the audience to the beauty of 18th century French culture, and let us see all the characters of the castle before their enchantment.

3. Pre-enchantment Beast is giving off major Louis XVI vibes.

4. Also Stanley Tucci playing the piano is quite enjoyable to watch.

5. Props to the writers for explaining why the towns people completely forgot about the existence of the Beast in his castle.

6. EMMA WATSON IS PERFECT AS BELLE.

7. Also her singing voice is just as good as I thought it would be.

8. I totally sang along with the townspeople to the song "Belle".

9. Like you better believe that I began with the first "Bonjour" and continued on until the song finished.

10. When Belle said "Your library makes our small corner of the world feel big," I felt as if everything I have ever loved about books and the power they have to take you somewhere new was perfectly summed up.

11. The Gaston in this film is a LOT more attractive than the one from my childhood.

12. Also, I already love Josh Gad as LeFou, even though he's only been on screen for five seconds.

13. The girls fangirling over Gaston are actually me obsessing over this entire movie.

14. Maurice is adorable, making his little music box and all.

15. "Teaching another girl to read? Isn't one enough?" You and your opinion are irrelevant sir.

16. "Madame Gaston, his little wife," she says in a disdainful voice. THAT'S RIGHT BELLE. YOU DON'T NEED NO MAN (except of course by your own choosing, cough, cough, the Beast).

17. Belle running the hills and singing feels very Sound of Music-esque and I'm digging it.

18. "I want adventure in the great, wide somewhere," is still my favorite quote in the entire film.

19. No Maurice, do not take the alternative route home. That does not seem like a logical idea.

20. "Just a bit of snow...in June." Maurice is subtly teaching us a lesson about global warming.

21. Now he's going into a stranger's castle, warming himself by the fire, and eating dinner in the dinning room like he owns the place. Maurice has a track record for bad decisions.

22. Belle taking her father's place as prisoner reminds me again why I loved her so much as a child: her flaming sincerity and courage.

23. The "Gaston" song was everything I had hoped it would be.

24. Also, the performance of this song by Josh Gad is just reaffirming what I previously thought; he was born to play LeFou.

25. Gaston just lifted LeFou and a random woman onto his shoulders and there is a part of me that believes that this is not just movie magic, but actually the super-human strength of Luke Evans.

26. LeFou trying to spell Gaston is me trying to spell big words while writing term papers.

27. Back in the castle Belle is being shown around her new home by the ever-beautifully-decorated Lumiere and Cogsworth.

28. This bedroom that they are giving Belle is gorgeous and it's making my dorm room seem more inadequate than ever.

29. The entire movie theater just lol'd at this scene.

30. The Beast is really going to need to work on his charming skills if he is going to break this curse.

31. Poor guy is just trying to get a dinner date, but something tells me yelling at a woman to eat has never been the way to get her to accompany you.

32. Chip might be the most adorable talking teacup ever. Well he's the only talking teacup I've ever seen, but still.

33. ITS TIME FOR "BE OUR GUEST".

34. THIS IS AMAZING.

35. Synchronized spoons, dancing dishes, and coordinated candlesticks makes for an amazing musical number.

36.But on a real note, Belle did not get to eat any of that food.

37. So I guess technically Lumiere didn't break the whole "If she doesn't eat with me, she doesn't eat at all" rule.

38. Belle is going in the West Wing, what a little rebel.

39. The real villain in this movie is this main wolf. He will not leave people alone.

40. Belle and the Beast fighting over whose fault the wolf vs Beast showdown is is literally me and my siblings fighting over everything.

41. Mrs. Potts's telling Belle that she and the others stood by while the Beast's father turned him into the mean prince that we saw in the beginning of the film is both simultaneously giving the Beast a backstory, and explaining why the enchantress cursed the servants too. Applause to the writers.

42. Side note: Watching them during "Days in the Sun," I realized that Plumette and Lumiere have the second best love story in this film.

43. OH. MY. GOSH. THE LIBRARY SCENE. IT'S HAPPENING.

44. THIS IS IT. THIS WAS EVERYTHING I WANTED AS A CHILD.

45. Tbh, my reaction to the library was the same as Belle's.

46. The Beast and Belle are flirting about books. MY HEART.

47. "Something There" is one of my favorite songs in the film. But on a real note, the beast low-key almost killed Belle with that snowball.

48.The two of the them warming up to each other is adorable.

49. "Your village sounds terrible"...yeah Beast it kind of is. 98% of the villagers are going to come try to kill you at the end of this movie.

50. I really like the addition of this magical book that is transporting Belle and the Beast to Paris.

51. Also this scene is really reminding me of how much I've always wanted to go to Paris.

52. And now we get to know more about Belle's backstory, which is something we didn't get in the original.

53. Meanwhile Gaston, LeFou, and Maurice are out in the woods...

54. Me:

55. Of course remembering a barbarian like Gaston.

56. Maurice is now being rescued by this hermit-like woman, Agatha, who has an owl, which I'm like 78% sure is Hedwig from Harry Potter, back to star in another movie with Emma Watson.

57. I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that Agatha is the enchantress.

58. Back at the Castle, the Beast is preparing for the big dance scene.

59. P.S. At this point in the film I started getting extra hype because I was so pumped to see Belle's dress.

60. P.P.S. I'm going to jump ahead a minute and tell you, the dress was BEAUTIFUL.

61. But back to the Beast, he just said, "I told her she was making everything around her so beautiful, so we should have a dance tonight. I never thought she'd say yes." The cute old man sitting next to me whispered to his wife "That's what I thought when I asked you to marry me." WHAT THE HECK SO CUTE.

62. The Beast asks Cogsworth how to know what the right moment to tell Belle that he loves her is, and the clock responds "You'll feel nauseous." Now the old gentleman says, "You better believe that's true." Oh my goodness, listening to this couple watch this movie together is making the $10 I spent to see this movie even better.

63. Okay back to Belle's dress now. I told you it was perfect.

64. As so is this entire dance montage.

65. And so is Emma Thompson's rendition of "Beauty and the Beast."

66. The bottom line: This entire scene is perfection.

67. The Beast letting Belle go to save her father still gets me every time.

68. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, this song "Evermore." (Note that I listened to this song on repeat for a solid weak after I saw the film.).

69. I just feel like giving the Beast this song gave us a chance to see how far he's come, and that's honestly one of the most important parts of the film.

70. I remember watching this part where Gaston locks both Belle and her father up when I was younger, and thinking "Dude, chill". Still applies to this version of the film.

71. Apparently the entire town feels the need to take a hint from Gaston and and go on a murderous rampage after a Beast that they didn't believe existed until two minutes ago.

72. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, and LeFou you better watch out because Mrs. Potts will not stand for being called a Grandma.

73. Watching the inhabitants of the castle fight against the villagers is still as entertaining as it was in the original film.

74. Cogsworth using books in the battle scene gives a nod to the idea that words are the most powerful weapon. Nicely played Disney.

75. Gaston just shot the Beast, and I for sure knew that was going to happen, but I just jumped three feet out of my chair

76. The little girl sitting in the row behind me definitely just stood up and pulled a Belle, yelling "No Gaston!"

77. The minute Gaston begs for the Beast to put him down, and the Beast replies "I am not a Beast," I thought, dang Disney is really hitting home the point of this entire movie.

78. I am fighting the urge to applaud as Gaston falls to his death (I still love Luke Evans though).

79. I always thought the Beast's transformation scene was so cool to watch, and it's even more amazing in real life than it was in animation.

80. I love how happily surprised he looks when he turns around to see Belle.

81. I always loved that she looked in his eyes to know it was still him.

82. THIS KISS.

83. Seeing the servants of the castle transform back into their human form shows how great a job the film did with making their object form and human actors look like they are the same person.

84. The final dance sequence of the film is gorgeous.

85. Dan Stevens and Emma Watson would have adorable little babies.

86. I love Audra McDonald's Broadway-esque version of "Beauty and the Beast," and the way it closes out the film perfectly.

87. THIS MOVIE WAS SO PERFECT.

88. And in the lyrics of the final song, "Nothing left to say, Beauty and the Beast."

StableDiffusion

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
