"Frankly my dear I don't give a damn." One of the most famous lines in film history. If you haven't seen Gone With The Wind, you have probably at least heard quotes or heard discussions about the notorious green curtain dress. Or, if you're like me and you grew up in the South, the movie is almost a religion in its' own right. I can't even remember when I watched the movie for the first time if I took a guess I'd say I can remember I watched bits and pieces when I was around eight years old. I soon figured out that I could learn so much about life from this movie, and who I wanted to be as a woman.
For anyone who hasn't seen the movie or read the book, Gone With The Wind is an epic story about the American Civil War and the Old South, and most importantly about Scarlett O'Hara. Scarlett O'Hara is a feisty southern Belle with a larger than life personality. Gone With The Wind follows Scarlett's life and her tangled love affairs with the many men she encounters and paints a picture of America during one of the most critical and important parts of United States History. Scarlett eventually meets her match in the stubborn, charming character that is Rhett Butler and her life as she knew it is flipped upside down. Scarlett is the epitome of a spoiled diva with the personality to match, but through her flaws, she is timeless and women everywhere can learn so much from who she is.
Scarlett Teaches Us That Trying To Fit In Is Overrated
Scarlett is expected to have a certain way about her that the women in her life feed into her from a young age, but her character matches her father's and she is has a wildfire nature about her that makes her different from what society expects. Being true to yourself makes you who you are; embrace it!
Love Is Messy And Often Not What You Expect
For most girls, we all want and expect to fall in love with the perfect when we want it. We want the perfect guy and the perfect life we've created in our minds for ourselves. We want it all to be just right and we get frustrated when real life kicks in and we realize it's not exactly the way we want. Love is messy, and real life happens.
Sometimes It's About The Clothes
Need I Say More?
In Certain Situations, The Best You Can Do Is Worry About It Tomorrow
Throughout the movie, Scarlett says all kinds of versions of the phrase "I'll think about that tomorrow." We stress ourselves out so much by trying to tackle every even or inconvenience in a span of 24 hours that it makes everything worse. We get so much more done and it takes less energy to try and tackle everything in one day.
Self Confidence Is Everything
Scarlett put herself out there, even though a lot of people didn't approve of her behavior. But heck, she created an amazing life for herself where she didn't require anyone or anything to help her. Being sassy isn't always the answer, but being able to be confident in your own abilities can move mountains.
A Man Should Compliment You, Not Define You
Scarlett spends so much energy trying to find a man to make her life perfect before she realizes that the man in her life that she actually loves compliments her and doesn't define who she is as a person. In regards to the dating world, the person you date should be the person that adds to who you are as a person, even if it isn't the person you thought you would want to be with.
