Studying Abroad This Summer? Here Is The Ultimate Packing Guide To Make Your Life That Much Easier

It's officially finals season, which means summer study abroad programs are just around the corner. Packing to go home for the summer is one thing, but packing to leave the country and studying for finals all at the same time is a lot. How are you supposed to figure out what you need to live in a different country and get it all into one suitcase? I've put together the ultimate packing guide, with tips for every step, so you don't forget a thing.

1. Everything You Need For Your Carry-On Bag

Most airlines allow one carry-on item and one personal item; I typically travel with a weekender bag and small backpack. Dress for the airport: dress in layers, pack a change of clothes and extra socks, and wear shoes that are easy to slip on and off.

Bringing a weekender bag or bigger backpack will also be useful for weekend trips to different places! Airlines specifications vary - please check with your airlines on size and weight restrictions.

Keep all important documents, including your passport, boarding passes and visa in one easy-to-reach spot.

Don't Forget:

- Passport

- Wallet

- Headphones

- Sweatshirt

- Snacks

2. Everything You Need For Your Checked Bags

The most important thing is to leave room in your suitcase! Mix and match outfits, layer whenever possible, and take advantage of laundry facilities. Avoid bringing things requiring dry-cleaning or that could easily get ruined.

Bringing valuables to another place can be tricky. Try to limit the amount of jewelry and valuables you pack, and think about investing in a travel safe or small lock for your luggage.

Don't Forget:

- Universal Adapter

- Charging Cords (laptop, phone, camera, etc)

- Underwear/Socks

- Pajamas

- Rain Jacket/Umbrella.

- Contacts & Glasses

Remember to leave room in your luggage for all the souvenirs and gifts you find while abroad! Here's a comprehensive checklist for packing. You can fill in how many of each you bring, and leave the list on top to make sure you have everything at the end of your trip!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
