If you are anything like me then you are always searching for the next place, the next quest, or the next memory that is to be taken on at any point in time. An adventure is more than a planned trip to somewhere you have always wanted to go, but it is a spontaneous combustion of enthusiasm mixed with an inner urge to go, see, and do.
Yes, this spirit of adventure can often get one in trouble; due to the simple fact that it is often very compelling to the point that you feel as though you should always be somewhere else is retrospect to the place that you are currently in. Yet, this inner urge to see as much of the world as possible is one to embrace for the benefit of everyone.
So I’ve compiled a list of five ways to dig down deep and find that person inside of you who is banging on your chest cavity for an exploration.
- Not being afraid of not having a destination. It could mean just getting in your car and going down a winding road that leads to the middle of nowhere, blaring your music so loud that all you are doing is having a concert for those whom you pass, or even just parking your car and taking a hike.
- Being willing to stop in the middle of going. In particular I’m talking about even when you can’t seem to catch your breath that you set aside time to venture into a place of unknowingness. That you be willing to take an adventure even though you probably cannot afford to amidst the mounds of paperwork.
- Realizing that adventure doesn’t have to be with others. There is so much freedom and excitement that comes when you have the option to just travel alone. It not only allows you to understand yourself better, but it provides an experience that really means more than just a post on social media to let everyone else know that you went there and did that.
- Taking into account that adventures aren’t always external. So yes nine times out of ten we envision an adventure as going somewhere we’ve never been; however, a true adventure is as much external as it is internal. See an adventure is something that creates that fire within us to make the most of everything around us.
- Creating friends in high and low places. Whether it is Bambi himself, or the sweet lady who sells flowers from her shop. Once again, a journey is about establishing connections well beyond the place itself. It is about creating a tie that is everlasting, and thus keeps you in a relationship with that place because of the people and not the things.
Although I have met my fair share of people who are perfectly content with staying in their hometown the rest of their lives, I still believe that even those people love a good quest. Hopefully, amongst the all the craziness all of us can take the time to gain a hold and highlight our inner traveler who simply loves a new experience.
