I have been following the Dropkick Murphys since I was 14 years old. A teacher I had in the eighth grade was a big fan of the band so I started listening to them. I have had the privilege of seeing them three times in concert and meeting them once. They are some of the nicest guys you will meet and they will do anything for their fans.

Being from Boston or the Boston area, you have at least heard of their song "I'm Shipping Up to Boston". It is a popular song to be heard at Fenway Park as well as the Martin Scorcese film The Departed. You can check out their bar and restaurant McGreevy's on Boylston street and participate in fundraisers for their Claddagh Fund. The goal of the Claddagh Fund is to help in need non-profits to support their community, which is pretty cool if you ask me.
There are many issues the band cares about and supports. One, in particular, is for their support of unions. This can be found on some of their older albums in songs such as "The Worker's Song" from the album Blackout. Another current issue that is hitting Massachusetts and all over the country, is the heroin epidemic. Their song "Paying My Way" is about this and the people affected by this epidemic. Check out the music video for it here...
Of the three shows I have been to, the Dropkicks have never disappointed. The best part is when you know every song and can sing along. If you've never been to one of their concerts, it is insane to watch everyone run around in a circle in the pit. The band has such a fun stage presence and fans love it when they can be pulled on stage for the last song of the show. They have a huge fan base all over the world so clearly, they are known wherever they go. Some of the places include Ireland, Argentina, and Croatia!
As a fan, and being from Boston, it is amazing to see who they are connected with. They know Bobby Orr, Micky Ward, Shawn Thorton and so many more artists and celebrities. It is so cool to see this local band interacting with other local celebrities.
So if you haven't listened to the Dropkick Murphys, I hope this article changes your mind and you give them a listen. And for the Dropkick Murphys, keep on touring and making albums. Your fans will be waiting.
