I love Christmas as much, if not more, than the next guy. I'm a December baby and and the delicious treats, wonderful music and beautiful decorations that come along with Christmas makes my birthday month. However, it irks me when people start celebrating Christmas early and almost skip Thanksgiving altogether. In case you are one of those people who has been playing Christmas music since November 1st, here are some reasons to hold off and give Thanksgiving the respect it deserves.
1. You get to spend more time with family.
While you do get to spend time with family at Christmas, the focus tends to go to things like presents and decorations, especially if there are little kids in the family. At Thanksgiving, you get a chance to bond with family members with few distractions.
2. You get to eat super delicious food!
Days, if not weeks, of planning go into a Thanksgiving meal. You get to eat delicious turkey, stuffing, casseroles, pies and much more. Christmas dinner may be good, but it can't compare to Thanksgiving dinner.
3. You get to reflect on all the things you have to be grateful for.
No matter how hard of a year you have had, you get a day to look back at the good things that did occur. Even in the most difficult of years, we can find things to be grateful for.
4. Listening to Christmas music after Thanksgiving makes it more special.
If you start listening to Christmas music on November 1st, you risk getting tired of it by the time Christmas rolls around, however, if you hold off and wait until the day after Thanksgiving to listen to it, then it becomes all the more special.
5. In a material centered world, we need to spend more time being thankful.
Spend some time with family and friends and reflect on all you have to be thankful for. Thanksgiving is one of the only times that Americans take time to think about all they have and all the good things they can be grateful for. Don't let this time of reflection be overshadowed by the commercialism of Christmas.
You have plenty of time to put up decorations, listen to Christmas music and eat candy canes if you wait until the day after Thanksgiving.
