Thinking long and hard about this topic, I can definitely relate to this more now that I am older and I have noticed my body changing over the years since my high school days. Recently I have noticed how my pants size varies from clothing store to clothing store. I can go to Old Navy and wear a pants size 4, I can go to Pacsun and wear a jean size 4, but at American Eagle I wear a Size 6.
I have always loved shopping, but the more I have developed over the years, the more inconsistent the sizing charts have become to match. It was never brought to my attention how sizes vary depending on where you are shopping. I began to notice how someone who is a size 0 in waist can fit a size 4 at another store. That is CRAZY!!!
Why are companies making a size 4 fit into a size 0? What are they trying to say about the average person? I feel that no matter what the size is on the tag, we should never feel ashamed about having to go up 3 sizes in pants due to a stores bad judgement on determining waist sizes. This is a horrible method because there are many young girls who look at the sizes on the tag and feel ashamed of their bodies and no one should feel ashamed because of those stores deciding to make things 10x smaller than what they should be.
I know it is easier said than done, because even I question why do I need to go up this far in size, but I realize it is not me—it is the store. It is the store choosing to make their material inadequate with everyday bodies. We are all different shapes and sizes and we should never let the size on the tag fool us!
