Let's all just keep our pickles to ourselves.

I know what you’re thinking. “What? I can just not accept something?" But let’s think about it. With everything that society is throwing at us now a day, every other thing is offensive to someone. And what’s even worse is that some people will get mad at you for being offended about something. We need to chill out for a second and just think.

Let me dumb this down for some people. If you are a Christian, you know that Satanism is a thing. Of course it is. However, you are not okay with it because you believe that it is wrong. So, what do you do? That’s right. You don’t accept it. And that’s okay because to you, Satanism is wrong. And you shouldn’t have to accept something that is wrong in your eyes. Let me dumb it down just a bit more. I don’t like pickles, but all of my friends and family absolutely love pickles. Does that mean I have to like pickles? Of course not. I realize that pickles are still a food, and that everyone around me is still going to eat them and I cannot stop them. But I’m still not going to eat them. And that’s okay because to me, pickles are gross.

Let me just go ahead and put this out here. If you are not okay with homosexuality, then you do not have to accept it. And if you are homosexual and you are not okay with people who are not okay with homosexuality, then you do not have to accept that. It’s as simple as that. However, you do have to still treat each other humanely. What’s really annoying is when people try and shove something down your throat just because they think everyone in the world should be okay with that something because they are okay with it, and that goes for both sides. Yes, it’s annoying when someone who is not okay with homosexuality shoves that down your throat, but it’s also annoying when someone who is okay with homosexuality shoves that down your throat. Spoiler alert: that’s kind of a jerk move.

Let’s go back to me not liking pickles. If you were my friend and you knew I didn’t like pickles, but you loved pickles, would you get upset and force-feed me a pickle? If you answered yes, then you’re a real jerk and let’s not be friends, okay? That’s rude and inhumane. It’s the same thing with anything else in this world. If someone is not okay with homosexuality, or the Muslim religion, and you are either of those things, contrary to belief, they do not hate that thing just because you like it. They are not okay with that thing only because they are not okay with that thing. That’s it. So that means there is no reason for you to force that person to love the color pink or anything else. Okay?

People should be able to be okay with what they are okay with and not what society thinks they should be okay with. You have a right to like pickles and I have a right to not like pickles. This also applies to how you have a right to be okay with homosexuality and I also have a right to not be okay with homosexuality. Now, I understand that some people take that right and hurt people and discriminate against them. However, that doesn’t mean that everyone does. So, just because I’m not okay with pickles, doesn’t mean that I’m going to criticize you for being okay with pickles. We can still be friends, as long as you do not force-feed me a gross pickle. Seriously, please, that’s rude.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
