7 Reactions I Received When I Wore My Donald Trump T-shirt On A Liberal Campus
Red Alert Politics

As a college female, I am stereotypically known to be a Trump-hating Democrat. However, in my case, this is far from true. So, I made the bold decision to wear a Donald Trump t-shirt to class for one day. These are the reactions I got from those on my campus:

1. Mean stares.

Some may argue, "Oh, that's just my face." But, your face doesn't instantly go from laughing to straight after you see the shirt I am wearing. Even some of the nicest people gave me mean looks.

2. Crazy accusations.

Some people thought I was a crazy racist, when in fact this is far from true.

3. Snarky comments.

This personally did not happen to me, but one of my friends, who is male, wore the exact same shirt as me and had some people curse at him for what he was wearing. In my case, others would have side conversations and indiscreetly mention me.

4. Double-takes.

Out of all the reactions I got, this may have been the one I was most expecting. I would pass people in between classes and they would turn around as I passed around.

5. Disassociation from professors.

One of my professors, who usually engages with me during class, did not approve of my shirt, and would not engage with me (as much) during class.

6. Disapproval.

Being a college student, I know the majority of us support more liberal sides of certain issues, so this was not to come as a surprise.

7. Smiles and agreement.

Even though this was the rarest reaction, I did get some high fives and some friendly smiles. This helped me realize that I wasn't alone as a conservative on my liberal campus.

By wearing a Donald Trump t-shirt for one day, I realized how truly divided America is when it comes to politics. Most people do not want to accept Trump as our president, but you know what, he is. Personally, I don't like some of the decisions he makes. However, I don't like some of the decisions other Presidents have made, either.

No person is perfect and makes the right decision all the time. Donald Trump is human just like every one of us, and we don't have to like everything he does. But, we do need to come together as a country with love and support for the person who is leading our country. You don't have to like it, but what exactly will your hatred do? It will not get him impeached, because he hasn't done anything wrong. So, start with love and let's see if that will help us Make America Great Again.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
