I Asked 20 Of My Favorite People What Their Favorite Songs Were To Help Out Your Playlist

You can tell a lot about a person by their taste in music. A song that someone chooses to listen to could be prompted by one of millions of reasons. Reasons like an emotional tie, exploring an unknown artist, or just because they like the beat of the song. Sometimes an unexpected side to someone can be shown once they reveal what their favorite song is.

That's exactly what I found, in some cases, when I asked some of my favorite people what their favorite song is and why. Some answered with things I totally expected, and others replied with an unexpected response. Please enjoy this mishmash of a playlist that I will now hold near and dear to my heart because it's made up of all of my favorite human's thoughts and personalities.

1. Andie - 19 - Friend

"At the moment it is 'He'll Never Love You Like Me' by Hayley Kyioko because she actually uses pronouns to show that she is in love with a girl in the song and it's not another heterosexual love song. Also because #20gayteen."

2. Jaxson - 16 - Brother

"'44 More' by Logic. It's lit and it's Logic who is usually about peace, love, and positivity who is taking shots at the rap industry and various artists showing that if he did ever come at you he would f****** murder your career."

3. Jake - 18 - Friend

"'Confident' by Demi Lovato cuz it is all about embracing who you are and being my favorite word. Confident."

4. Haley - 19 - Roommate

"'Video Games' by Lana Del Rey. It's a beautiful and haunting ballad that holds a lot of sentiment to me. The music video always makes me cry, no matter how many times I've seen it."

5. Trish - 48 - Mother

"'Rebel Yell'. It brings me back to my first concert and has a great beat to run to. The song brings back fond memories of my first boyfriend, Doug, who took me to my first concert which was Billy Idol who is still my favorite today. I like the rhythms and you can sing it really loudly."

6. Selena - 19 - Friend

"Currently my favorite song is 'Freaky Friday' by Lil Dicky cause it's a fun song to sing along to and it reminds me of one of my favorite childhood movies, 'Freaky Friday'."

7. Alexcis - 19 - Friend

"'Ignition' by R. Kelly. It makes me feel nostalgic to my childhood, surrounded by R&B. It instantly brightens my mood on a crappy day. And I just wanna dance every time it comes on."

8. Eric - 50 - Father

"'China Cat Sunflower-I Know You Rider'. I love its intricate rhythm guitar and rich vocal harmony. Each verse is sung by a different person and the lyrics meter is syncopated."

9. Grace - 18 - Friend

"'Partition'! That can get me hyped for literally anything. It's just super badass and sexy and fun to sing. It's like a girl power song but better because it's about a hot limo hookup and that's the dream."

10. Val - 74 - Grandmother

"'Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head' by B.J. Thomas because I visualize that beautiful scene where Katharine Ross is riding on the Handlebars of the bike that is ridden by Paul Newman. Show with shallow depth of field, fab movie, blah blah blah."

11. Cara - 18 - Roommate

"Right now it's probably 'Peach Scone' by Hobo Johnson. The song itself is honestly super weird but I understand what he's talking about. He's wrestling with how he feels about someone but he can't tell if he likes the idea of being with them or if he just likes the thought of not being alone. I first discovered him by watching one of his music videos and I think that's why I like it so much- because his face during the video was radiating with how much he truly loves what he's doing."

12. Caleb - 16 - Brother

"'Mr. Misunderstood' by Eric Church. I just connect with it and I feel like I am misunderstood by a lot of people and people just don't get me. So I connect with it emotionally and I know that I'm gonna do something someday."

13. Anna - 19 - Friend

"For me it's kinda always changing but right now I would say 'Good Life' by OneRepublic. Mainly because our freshman year is ending and it's one of those songs that make nostalgic and freshman year of college is definitely a time I'm gonna look back on and think 'This was the good life.'"

14. Charlie - 19 - Friend

"'Seigfried' by Frank Ocean. Connected with it when I was going through tough times."

15. Brandan - 18 - Friend

"'No Tears Left To Cry' probs. It's about finding your ground in the midst of a crazy hectic life (which is why the music video is constantly spinning) and finding peace and ground within yourself rather than others."

16. Beth - 19 - Friend

"'Riptide' by Vance Joy because I've always liked it and it's the only song I can sing all the way through a capella. And it's in my range and it's got a fun tune!"

17. Lydia - 13 - Sister

"Right now it's 'Changes' and because it reminds me of good times and Uncle B."

18. Natalie - 20 - Friend

"ONE of my favorite songs is 'Get Home' by Bastille because of the way the music builds."

19. Craig - 19 - Uncle

"'Learning To Fly' by Tom Petty. The lyrics are relatable and true to life."

20. Maegan - 25 - Sister

"I'm stuck on 'Angela' by The Lumineers. It has no sentimental meaning but I just love the message it sends and story it tells. It has amazing songwriting and it's aesthetically pleasing"

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
