Did You Forget About Avril Lavigne?

A throwback to her trendy pop punk hits

Did You Forget About Avril Lavigne?

Growing up in the '90s gave us the chance to experience the best of two decades of music: the dying '80s rock, which transitioned into the emergence of '90s and 2000s female singer-songwriters whose music is still relatable to this day. Of these beautiful, young and fresh women who impressed the world with their amazing voices was one punk rock chick that everyone had a thing for: Avril Lavigne. Her music was a combination of real life situations and a punk rock feel that backed up any and all emotions that were expressed on her tracks. Her songs, although rarely thought about these days, are so much more relatable to the children of the '90s, as we are growing up and experiencing the actual events that Avril sung so wholeheartedly about. So for a throw back, let's grab our black Kohl eyeliner, and rewind to some of Avril Lavigne's best hits.

"Sk8ter Boi"

The infamous Sk8ter Boi song is a tale of a girl who thought she was too good for this skater boy. Can I make it any more obvious? Later, the song reveals that the guy becomes a famous rockstar that makes the goody-good girl realize she was all wrong. But the best part is the last few lines, when you find out that Avril is singing about how she has the skater boy now, and the first girl is out of luck!

"What The Hell"

This gem is a classic breaking-out-of-your-shell song that embodies how every girl feels when they transition from high school to college. The quirky beat behind Avril's bubble gum pink highlights makes this the perfect girls night jam.

"Girlfriend"

The punk pop vibe of this song is alive, and it makes you want to rock out with your tongue out. Flirty, possessive, and self confident, Avril paints the perfect picture of every girl who crushes on a guy who is already taken.

"Complicated"

One of Avril's first hits had everyone surprised with her soft rock vibe. Describing the frustrating phenomenon of your significant other becoming someone different because of peer pressure.

"When You're Gone"

This beautiful song is something so different from the punk rock feels that Avril released, and it shows off her virtuoso trait. The piano rendition immediately sucks you into this powerful song about missing loved ones who are lost.

"Innocence"

This chilling song describes the anger you feel when you realize that the world isn't the most beautiful pure thing you always thought it was. As you grow up, you lose your innocence, and you begin to feel sorry for yourself. But you can't give up on trying to find the good things in life.

Although Avril hasn't released any hits recently, most likely due to her battle with Lyme Disease, her music touched everyone in at least some way. I hope this throwback gives you the feels, gives you the chills, and makes you smile!
