You've heard of Insomnia Cookie, but have you heard of Appalachian Cookie Co?

Now nestled in it's fairly new location on Faculty Street, Boone, North Carolina (and a location in Charlotte!), this small business has been serving up freshly baked cookies since 2012. With their unique hours (11am to as late as 1am sometimes), App Cookie Co has gained legendary status among Appalachian State University students. Whether they're craving some homemade cookies or maybe just needing a sweet treat after a wild night out.

With 16 original flavors, and some snazzy seasonal ones offered every month, it's hard to nail down exactly which ones are the real deal. Well, my roommate Peyton and I are hard core App Cookie Co fans and decided to do the impossible. We created a definitive ranking of the top 10 best Appalachian Cookie Co flavors of all time.

Left- Me (Meagan, experience: 12 years of girl scouts, has sold probably approx. 5,000 cookies)
Right- Peyton (experience: has eaten approx. 538,000 cookies in her life, rides horses)

Using a super accurate and intricate scaling system (that I totally didn't make up in five minutes in my dorm room), here are our results.

10. Candy Bar Cookie (Limited Edition, October Cookie of The Month)

Meagan: I've never actually had this cookie but you would not shut up about it since I brought it up.

Peyton: Honestly my favorite cookie here but I forgot about it until this very moment and it's only once a year. Lowered score because such a tease.

9. Pumpkin Spice (Limited Edition, September Cookie of The Month)

Meagan: It's exotic, I like the fact that it is different and a lot less work than waiting for a pumpkin spice latte to cool and drinking the whole thing.

Peyton: I mean it was good if you're into that fall taste kind of thing.

Meagan: I am into that kind of thing.

8. Peanut Butter (Regular Menu)

Meagan: It's a peanut butter cookie, pretty standard but super soft and tasty.

Peyton: I have to really be in the mood to have peanut butter, but yeah, solid choice.

7. Irish Cheesecake (Limited Edition, March Cookie of The Month)

Meagan: loved this cookie, I love the cheesecake flavor to begin with but this has a hint of Bailey's Irish Creme and ugh, its so yummy.

Peyton: I've never had it but I'll take your word for it.

6. Chocolate Peanut Butter Porter (Regular Menu)

Meagan: Why did you rate this masterpiece so low

Peyton: Don't attack me Meagan

Meagan: This is hands down one of my favorite cookies on this planet, the chocolate doesn't overwhelm and the peanut butter balances really well. Love it.

Peyton: It's good, but like I said, I have to be in the mood for peanut butter.

Meagan: judging you

5. Molasses (Regular Menu)

Peyton: ugh, Molasses knows how to feed the soul

Meagan: honestly, not a fan of Molasses.

Peyton: I am very offended.

Meagan: It just tastes like a really buttery cookie if you're into that sort of thing.

Peyton: well, I am into that sort of thing

4. Chocolate Chip (Regular Menu)

Meagan: Classic, who doesn't love a chocolate chip cookie. App Cookie does it justice.

Peyton: Just a good OG cookie, I'm a fan.

3. Snickerdoodle (Regular Menu)

Meagan: A little too much cinnamon for my taste, but overall a pretty solid cookie.

Peyton: 8/10, solid cookie

2. Cheesecake (Regular Menu)

Meagan: Freaking love cheesecake, hands down my favorite cookie. Oh my god I love the cheesecake cookie, hell yes.

Peyton: you know I'm not a fan of cheesecake.

Meagan: well, you're wrong.

1. Sugar (Regular Menu)

Meagan: There are very few things on this earth better than an App Cookie sugar cookie fresh out of the oven.

Peyton: That I agree with, 10/10 That is my ish.

**Honorable Mention: Mexican Hot Chocolate, The Yosef, The Ron Swanson, and Apple Pie

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register.
