Watch out for the underdog holiday

Get ready y’all, here’s the official ranking of the best holidays for college students, taking into consideration family obligations, outfit potential and alcohol consumption.

8. Thanksgiving

The worst holiday, filled with family you don’t want to see, dry turkey you wish you didn’t have to eat and although half the food doesn’t appeal to you, you end up over-filling your stomach on mashed potatoes and then feeling like you might drop dead when faced with the pumpkin pie.

7. Valentine's Day

Better with a boyfriend but still filled with immeasurable pressure to have the perfect romantic evening, without a boyfriend it’s a lonely reminder that no one wants you. Galentine's, in contrast, is an amazing holiday, but not an official holiday, unfortunately.

6. Saint Patrick’s Day

Great drinking holiday, but if it falls on a weekday you’re screwed; plus, it’s not even a legitimate holiday in Ireland. St. Patty’s is a curse of waking up with a major migraine and a string of green mardi gras beads that were better left on the floor of the forgotten party.

5. Christmas

We all love the gifts, but after 25 days of Christmas it all leads up to an hour of present opening while surrounded by wasted wrapping paper and itchy Christmas sweaters with uncomfortable family photos.

4. Labor Day

An underdog holiday, but not to be underestimated. It extends the summer so you have one last weekend of sunny fun and helps ease you back into the school schedule, plus you might be able to get a parade or some town festivities out of it.

3. Fourth of July

Safely cushioned in the summer where you’re already home to celebrate and with warm weather to wear some cute outfits for Instagram. A day to relax and enjoy yourself with friends, you have a parade and fireworks to see.

2. New Year’s Eve/Day

Cute outfits but less sweat than the Fourth of July, parents slipping you champagne as though you hadn’t already been drinking. Not too much pressure for romance but a great perk if the night if there’s a pair of lips available.

1. Halloween

The holy grail of dressing up, you can go the party gal route, a couple costume, or a favorite character. It has great movies, plenty of alcohol, an abundance of parties, and a full weekend people stretch to celebrate.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
