Dear Mother Nature, Please Don’t “Let It Snow” This Winter

I’m sorry, but this snow has to go.

Dear Mother Nature, Please Don’t “Let It Snow” This Winter

I know that I probably triggered winter lovers already by saying that I hate the snow. I actually love the snow, but only for a few hours. Then, I wish that it would disappear forever! I'm fine with the winter and holiday seasons. I love seeing homes decorated with lights, having a warm peppermint coffee, and holiday songs playing in stores. I don’t even mind the cold weather at all. The only issue I have is snow on the ground.

The first major issue that I have with snow is driving. I’m from a small town in Verona that is at the bottom of a mountain. The college that I attend is located on top of this mountain. I’m sorry Montclair State University, but if it's snowing I can’t drive to campus. I'd rather miss a class than to roll back down a mountain.

MSU rarely has snow days and the snow makes it hard to travel. Even walking in the snow can be difficult for students. Our campus has buildings that are spread out, which means I have to put my coat on and walk outside for five minutes just to get coffee before class. Even when it’s cold, you can just wear a coat. But with snow, you need to wear gloves, a hat, scarf, and snow boots. Putting this on and off all day is hard and annoying.

The second reason for my intense hatred for snow is how wet it is. I love the rain because, after a few hours, everything dries up. But, snow stays around for a long time and slowly melts. If you fall in the snow, you will be cold and drenched.

I still don’t understand how snowball fights are fun. Afterwards, I end up freezing for hours long. Sleigh riding is just surfing in freezing water! I can not understand the joys of being cold and wet during the winter because of the snow. This is what causes people to end up sick with a fever or sore throat.

The worse kind of snow is when it hails out. Besides normal snow, there is a worse kind of snow that damages cars, homes, and anything outside. It can even hurt people! In case you do not know what hail is, it’s snow that is the size of tiny rocks and it’s super hard and painful to be hit with.

I am not sure why mother nature thought it was a good idea to make snow that hurts us. Another painful kind of snow is ice. Driving on ice is awful because you lose control of your car. Or, you can walk on it and get hurt severely. Ice is just like snow, wet and freezing cold. When the weather forecast says it will be snowing, I become frightened instead of excited. You never know how aggressive the snow will become.

If there is anything that you have learned about snow, it’s that it is the worst kind of weather. I say, pour as much salt as possible and get rid of it quickly! When it is snowing out, I will be inside wrapped in a blanket and drinking tea. Hopefully, we will have a green winter this season!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
