We all have a little bit of Irish in us, whether it be your heritage or just the way you drink. Those of us with the Irish in us, we take it with pride and get hype every time the good ol’ St. Patrick’s Day comes around. St. Patrick's Day has become all about the green parties and the “kiss me, I’m Irish shirts,” wearing green to avoid getting pinched, classic Baileys drinks, and of course--Rubens (they are actually German sandwiches). Then, there are those common misconceptions that are not true about most of us out there, but hey, good thing I’m here to tell you!

1. WE ALL DON’T HAVE RED HAIR AND BLUE EYES

Come on now, not every Irish person has red hair, let alone curly hair. I have met a handful of people who have straight hair and grew up in Ireland. Also, most of us have curly hair (not me unfortunately) but a lot of us don't. The genes just keep on rolling with the curly hair in Ireland so there is a bit of truth in that misconception, hence the Irish dancing curls.

2. WE’RE NOT A BUNCH OF DRUNKS

We might like to party, yes. We have Irish beers (Baileys is our “ish”) but we are not all about drinking. We are sophisticated, young men and woman who know our limits. Although, if you catch us in the pub on a holiday (St. Patrick’s Day) then you might disregard this paragraph. In the meantime, we do not drink 24/7, but don’t hesitate to challenge.

3. OUR ACCENT IS NOT SCOTTISH

Ah, yes. Our neighboring country of Scotland. Don’t get me wrong now, Scotland is a great place. I mean their country's animal is a unicorn. We are very close but also very different places. Ireland and Scotland are like two sisters, both very beautiful but have different personalities. So please, save yourself the pain and educate yourself before deciding whether you're talking to an Irish person or a Scottish person. Here is a fun fact: Scottish people speak Scottish Gaelic, which is different from Gaelic spoken in Ireland.

4. WE DON'T ALL IRISH DANCE

Yes, Irish dancing is very big in Ireland and all around the world but just because were Irish doesn’t mean we Irish dance. Although, the bright colors, difficult steps, jumps, and leaps, and of course the hair is exciting to watch as it dances to a popular Celtic beat. The Irish are proud of their Irish dancing and the history of the Irish dancing, but just because our name is in the title doesn’t mean we all do it.

5. YES, WE HAVE A BIG TEMPER.

We all have a little bit of Irish in us when we get really mad and blow up at someone; that is what I like to call an Irish temper. This is not a myth; better yet, I might as well warn you about it now. The smallest of things can really set us off. For example, if you walk too slow in front of me, I will secretly start a fight with you inside my head but the minute you move out of my way I'll be fine and fake apologize. So please, watch out, because we also tend to be very emotional.

6. WE HAVE PLENTY OF POTATOES NOW, OKAY?

It was terrible, sad and a huge part of our history. We have moved on and become bigger and better things and we embrace our history every day.

*End emotional spiel*

So there you have it, the most common misconceptions I can think of as to what we Americans think of Irish men and women. Now go drink your Baileys and wear your green, but don’t expect to see a leprechaun because those are Scottish.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
