Coming To A Big College Was The Best Choice I Ever Made
Emily Johnson

If someone would have told me that I would have ended up going to a large public university for college, I would have laughed. I had zero interest in coming to a big school. My ideal college was a small, private school relatively close to home. But things often have a funny way of working out.

A big college just didn't seem like the right fit for me. I was scared that there would just be TOO many people and that I would feel like a fish out of water on campus. Now keep in mind that I am from a super small town (Like my graduating class had 132 people).

But as fate had it, I ended up enrolling at NC State. And I can confidently say that all my reservations about coming to a large school were wrong. This is the best decision I have ever made. Here are six reasons why big schools are the best:

1. There's always so much to do

From Packapalooza, to Stranger Things Night in the Dining Hall to late night karaoke and game nights, There is always SOMETHING going on around campus. This is often something that you don't see with smaller schools. These events really can bring the student body together and are unique to large schools.

2. Opportunities out the wazoo

From networking to internships and job opportunities, the possibilities are endless. Going to a large school means there is a strong group of alumni and that presents countless chances to set yourself up for success

3. Division one athletics

Division One sports are a big deal. I cannot describe that feeling that you get when attending one of these games. Whether it's watching your school take on their rival or taking on the championship each game is filled with excitement and surprises.

4. Football season

Relates back to number three but the point still remains. Football season is AMAZING and deserves its own point! There' is nothing better than starting out the day at a tailgate in the parking lots just hanging out with friends while singing Wagon Wheel with a sweet tea in hand. Then parading over to the stadium to cheer on your team.

5. You meet SO many friends

I cannot stress this enough. My school has 35,000 students but I can always without fail see at least one person I know. Whether that be in the dining halls or on the way to class. Despite being such a big school, it can have a very small school feel in this way.

6. The strong sense of pride

You will forever cherish the words of the Alma Mater and are proud of your identity. You forge a bond with your classmates that will forever hold true

All in all, I wouldn't have it any other way! Raleigh has become my new home and I couldn't be happier. I have met some of my absolute best friends and had experiences of a lifetime. I am convinced that going to a large university was the best decision I have ever made.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
