Before I came to college, I spent all of my graduation money on all of the things that I thought would be vital to my college wardrobe. I got heels for all the formals I would surely be going to every weekend, dresses and rompers to wear for every game day, cute shoes to go with the trendy outfits I'd wear out to lunch. You know, basically, all things that would sit in my closet untouched for the entire year. Here are a few things that I wish I knew when I was shopping.
You can never have enough casual clothes
Sweatshirts, t-shirts, and leggings were my go-to outfits for just about any occasion. You can truly never have enough comfy clothes.
Prepare for rainy weather, because it's probably not always sunny in your college town
Invest in a quality pair of rain boots and a jacket that is actually resistant to water. I learned this one the hard way after sitting through class soaking wet.
A jacket won't do, get a parka
A jacket may have been enough for walking from your car into your high school, but it won't cut it for 20 minute walks across campus in the snow.
Baseball hats are always a good idea
They're cute, add to your outfit, and save you from bad hair days.
Buy a few dresses, but don't go crazy
Yes, there were some occasions that I needed a dress, but one or two will probably suffice. Borrowing is your best friend when it comes to expensive evening wear!
One professional outfit is a must
There might be some time you find yourself having to interview for something, whether that be a job, academic program, or a scholarship. Have just one professional outfit on hand will save you a stressful trip to the mall.
Invest in a pair of go-to jeans
I know the jeans with the cute stripes and star patterns are to die for, but after you wear them one time, you're probably not going to want to wear them again, at least until everyone forgets about the outfit you wore last weekend. You're much better off getting some classic, plain, flattering jeans to go with everything.
You can never go wrong with spirit wear
Class? Gameday? Whatever the occasion, you can probably get away with wearing spirit wear, and if you plan on attending any sporting events, it's essential to your wardrobe.
