Transitioning from high to college can be nerve-wracking, and many incoming freshmen wonder what life is actually like at a university. No one truly knows what they're getting themselves into until they get there, but I've had a few wake-up calls since being away from home that I think are important to share with all the new incoming students!

1. People actually want to be there.

Besides the few students that come to college for things other than a good education, the people you are surrounded by actually want to be where they are. I know in high school there were a lot of kids in my classes that weren't actually interested in learning, but I've found that nearly everyone in college is so excited to learn and grow! There is a constant community around you that is just as passionate about their major as you are, and it makes for a great classroom experience.

2. Teachers don't care if you come to class.

I was ,shocked when I realized that my teachers don't actually take attendance. However, they don't explain the material or help you out unless you come in to their office hours. This has since taught me a really big lesson: self-advocating is key. Teachers are there to do their job and educate young adults, but whether or not you are present for that honestly doesn't matter to them.

 3. You can make friends anywhere.

Unlike high school where you pretty much know everyone, you can make friends everywhere you go in college. Holding the door open for someone, saying hi to people you see daily, or even just walking up to someone at a party. The good thing is, sitting alone at lunch isn't seen as weird like it is for high schoolers, but there will always be chances to meet new people!

4. There's always something you'll have to do.

I know when I was in high school, I always liked to get everything done the day it was assigned. Sometimes that didn't necessarily work out, but I always finished everything and would have time to relax. Unfortunately, in college, even if you finish your homework, there's a great chance that your laundry is building up or the club you joined is having their weekly meeting. Knowing that there's always something I can be doing was stressful at first, but I've come to accept that even if you have work to do, everyone deserves a little break in their day.

5. TV is a thing of the past.

Going into college I thought I was going to have time to keep up with all the shows I religiously watched back home, and I was sad to find out that I'm lucky if I even get to squeeze in my favorite Youtubers. Luckily I'm usually busy doing things I enjoy, but missing my weekly KUWTK is a hard thing to accept!

6. You are stronger than you think.

College is difficult and can push you to your limits, but it will truly show you all of the great qualities you have. As I'm sure you've heard adults say, college is the time to find out who you are and what you are capable of. It's crazy how they actually aren't kidding when they say that.

If you're beginning to prepare for your first year of college and find yourself trying to figure out what life will actually be like, don't stress because we've all been there. Everyone figures out how to adapt, and eventually, you'll wish you could stay in college forever!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
