To the boys in college running after God’s own heart, props to you.
You are doing something that I can only imagine is harder than any Calculus test, any Savage Race, or winning a state championship. It's harder than when your pet goldfish died in the third grade the same day you failed the Pacer test.
You are facing temptation left and right and quite honestly - I have the utmost respect for you and everything that you are doing.
College is hard - I get it.
It’s different than high school. At least there were boundaries and rules. College is fair game. There’s no dress code, there’s no “student handbook”, there are parties every weekend and everyone is trying so hard to conform to what they believe are social norms. You have to make a decision if you want to give in to the world or if you want to follow Jesus and what He has planned for you - and you’re doing it.
1 Corinthians 9:24 says “Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win.” You have to be diligent in running your race so you can achieve great things. You have to chase Him with everything you have so you can live a life worth living. Your future wife and children will love you so much. Don’t be the guy that ends up having to tell your kids “don’t do what I did in college." Be the guy that can lead them in the right direction by example.
It's not going to be easy. Every day will be hard and it definitely isn't going to get any easier.
But I encourage you to keep going. This will prove to be one of the best decisions that you make within these four years. It will benefit your life more than anything. Keep booking study rooms. Keep leading small groups. Keep going to church and learning more about God.
Even better, invite your friends to church. Start a small group with the other guys in your fraternity, your roommates, the people you work with. Find guys that can hold you accountable to be elbow deep in God's word. Keep making God a priority in your life because it's so attractive. Trust me - you are the kind of guy that girls are looking for. You are the guy that girls want to take home to their parents and live a life with you.
Live a life that other people look at you and wonder how in the world you can be THAT awesome of an individual. Make them want what you have - a love for God who can offer you the world. At the end of your life, be able to say “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith.”
