Christmas Is My White Girl Super Bowl, So Let Me Have My Moment

Christmas Is My White Girl Super Bowl, So Let Me Have My Moment

There are many events in life that constitute a white girl super bowl moment. Shopping for a prom dress, throwing the most legendary bachelorette party of all-time and having the most picture-perfect wedding are all such events. These things in a girl's life only happen once. However, Christmas is something we can look forward to each year. It's a time to showcase our most prized Pinterest recipes and DIY finds that have been in the works since December 26thof last year. Let us work our festive magic.

Pause.

Hear me when I say one thing, I promise I haven't forgotten about Thanksgiving. You don't need to remind me of this ever so important event. Like anyone else in America, I can't wait to sit around a table with family surrounded by an obnoxious amount of food and love. Thanksgiving is its own time to shine and I'm here for it. I am not, under any circumstances standing her with my Christmas coffee cup to rain on your Paula Dean parade. However, it doesn't hurt a thing to enjoy your Thanksgiving meal surrounded by a Christmas tree or two, or five.

I'm not sure if it's a part of Southern culture or just a tradition passed down through my family but my Mom taught me everything I know. Like many of my fellow early Christmas decorators, this was all we knew growing up. It was a well-known fact that the coming of the end of the year was a time to liven up the house with seasonal décor. Late September to early October was dedicated to the fall and Halloween decorations. However, the first weekend of November brought about an explosion of the most wonderful time of year, Christmas.

I can't speak for all of my fellow early decorators out there but I can tell you for me, it's all about the spirit of the season rather than the gift getting. I know that's hard to believe as so much of our current culture focuses on the materialistic side of things.

But please hear me out.

Christmas is the best time of the year. Don't tell me you can't drive around looking at Christmas lights without feeling just a little happier inside. Maybe it's just my positive nature or me becoming my Mother but I gravitate towards Christmas because of the warm fuzzy feelings it brings me. We've all had our Cindy Lou-Hoo moment when realize Santa is just your parents giggling in the Livingroom at 3 a.m. setting out presents and eating the cookies you left out. It's a sad moment but we all went through it eventually. But that's not why I'm here. I'm here because I find the last two months of the year better than all the rest, and I'm fully equipped and ready to celebrate.

You read it right earlier. Each year, my family put up five full-sized Christmas trees around our house. I'm aware that's a bit much but let me live my life.

Don't forget it cost you all of $0 to worry about what makes you happy. For many girls out there, the only thing getting us to Friday is a gingerbread latte and our favorite Christmas movie on repeat.

Call it what you will but I am just here decorating my Christmas tree at the beginning of November for my personal enjoyment. I am very proud of this year's color scheme. (shout out to Pinterest for the inspiration) No, I don't care what you think. I'll continue to wear my reindeer socks and sing Michael Buble's entire album the day after Halloween. I have no shame in my game.

I am not here to argue with anyone. Have fun putting up your Christmas tree on Black Friday

Sincerely,

An "early" Christmas decorator

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
